Mexican Insurance in Chula Vista
 

I've stopped at two insurance agencies that issue Mexican vehicle insurance in this California town and they say they cannot insure me because i have a Canadian vehicle.

do i have to get my TVIP before i can insure my vehicle? Which would make sense.

Any place before the border that i can do this?

Or do i get my insurance at the border with my TVIP?

Clueless and confuse because i don't want to be driving with out appropriate insurance in Tijuana.

That does not seem right, it is Mexican Insurance not U.S. Insurance!
I have bought Mexican Insurance 4 times twice for my Canadian car and twice for my Canadian bike.
Online for the bike and close to the border for the car. No problemas

Baja Mex insurance
 

Ya, i guess i stopped about 14 miles too soon for Mexican insurance. Probably why they didn't deal with me, however, they did have big banners on there store saying buy Mexican insurance here.

Ended up getting it from Baja Mex insurance; 100 000 liability and 20 000 legal. I was that close to saying forget the insurance. almost doesn't seem worth it.

think about that coverage and me being on a bike? What are the accidents i could actually get in that i would utilize that. Indeed, it would most likely only apply if i hit a pedestrian. If i hit another car and did 100 000 dollars damage, i would most likely be dead. Reason being, unless it was a really nice car, i would some how have to hurt the occupants of the car.....which i believe is statistically unlikely unless i somehow make contact with the other cars occupants which usually only occurs on a head on collision. However, i could rest in peace "knowing" that the people i hit would be compensated for my mistake. I think, in order for a policy to be useful, there needs to be enough scenarios that it could be used to it's max. I can't really think of any other than a pedestrian,another bike, or a head on collision that results in contact with passengers. What are those chances?

You can get comprehensive, but you will need all your reciepts for your bike and modifications - only one or two of the insurance places actually offer this. I'm thinking this would be very expensive.

So, for all you newbies like me who don't have Mexican vehicle insurance and want it on the fly. when traveling down Highway 5 or 801 to Tijuana don't exit until the yellow sign says "Last Exit Before the Border". Exit and there will be twenty or so taco bell like drive through insurance places with a plethora of insurance policies to choose from. Go in and talk to them and compare prices. You can get really really cheap ones that might not be really worth much of really really expensive ones that might not be really worth much. But that is insurance.

I wise old millwright i worked with said "he would rather not have insurance....nobody should have insurance". Instead, he said "every one should just have a 9 inch spike sticking out of the middle of their steering wheel". Meaning, if everyone drove like their life depended on it, there would probably be an insignificant amount of accidents. More and more i understand this insanely intelligent idea. Of course, if you rode a Motorcycle, you would be exempt from the spike program.

I think you have Mexican insurance so that you do not go to jail after an accident, you are quilty until proven innocent in Mexico, plus you have the help from an ajuster in Mexico after the accident........ or as some of my Mexican friends have told me just drive away quickly if you can!:D
