Just in the planning stages of a trip (usa, mexico, central america), and looking into emergency hospital medical ins. Can't believe the premiums for 12 months plus on the road. I live in British Columbia Canada , and am wondering if any fellow B.Cer's have any advice for me regarding insurnace. I am considering mediassist as well. One other question about motorcycle insurance. when we cross into Mexico we have to get Mexican insurance. Can you get it in the USA, say in Yuma, or do you purchase it right at the border crossing, how does that work? Thanks.

Hi, I assume it's the same at other border crossings. I crossed about 5 miles east of the main Tijuana border post, there were a number of offices advertising motor insurance on the approach road. For a bike it was cheap and easy to buy, I can't see you having any problem.

Similar facilities seemed available at the Tecate crossing, I couldn't verify this as the whole border was closed when I arrived. On that note, if the highway to the border is closed it may not be the best bet to make an off-road approach to the border post. It didn't impress the border guards and they turned me back, right through the wildfire frontline.
