Mauritanian visa at Mauri-Morocco border?

Hi everyone

I've read on the thorntree that you can get a 2-week visa at the Mauri-Moroccan border if you just ask for it.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

just a quick update, i crossed into mauritania today from dahkla and at the border was asked how long i planned to stay in the country, i said two weeks and was granted a full visa for two weeks for 20euro, they wouldnt accept dirham. not sure how it all happened but it did, the driver i was with seemed to know every one well, and he and i had been getting on well, so it could have had something to do with it. also the guy made a big thing out of showing every one my passport, usa, and the first page which has a note on it from the sec of state saying to allowing passage un hindered or something to that extent, and that he was doing what it said. so like i said not sure what really was at play but the visa says valid until 07-05-08 which is about 15 days from today. maybe ill end up the fool at the exit but for now all looks okay.

yep , you can get a visa on the border , for up to 2 weeks , if you ask for it. If not , then you are issued the standard 3 days transit visa,

if its 20euros for the 2 week visa, then how much does the transit visa cost?? haha

This info dates from before the recent military coup and matches my experience back in January.

The question is whether the same applies SINCE the coup.

has anyone any advice on the pros and cons of obtaining mauri visa in rabat versus using visa agency in, say london. price, time to wait etc? planning bike jaunt to gambia jan, back march so wd be need double/multiple entry visa. thanks
