lloyds bank (UK)

Not sure if this is the the best place for this but here goes.

If you have accounts with Lloyds Tsb bank in the UK this may be of interest, especially if you are on the road and using said accounts to withdraw cash.
I registered my 2 debit cards for use on a 5 month European trip and also took out a new credit card recommended by the branch staff for this length of trip.

As some people may be aware, Lloyds and Tsb are being split into 2 companies, some customers are going to Tsb , some are staying with Lloyds. What this means for me is 2 months into the trip all 3 of the cards have been cancelled and new ones issued in theTsb name. Thing is they will only send the new cards to my home address. So the cards I have with me are useless and the new ones are at home leaving me with no means of withdrawing cash..! Fortunately I have an alternative bank so I'm ok for the moment

So if you have an account with Lloyds, especially if you're on the road and it's your main or only source of cash, I urge you to check this hasn't happened to you asap as Lloyds will not contact you. I only found out when amazon knocked back a payment for a kindle book.

I have a Metro bank account, i could not believe how quick and easy it was to open in the branch, and get your bank card on-the-spot! I have used it on 3 trips recently and very pleased with exchange rates etc.

Thanks for the tip. They are indeed dubious examples of anatomy.

I sacked off Lloyds TSB before we left the UK in January as they charge a fair old wack on withdrawals!

Anyway, I found Norwich & Peterborough (N&P) Building Society who wont charge for transactions or withdrawals. I got the account set-up easily through the post and told them every country we were going through. All noted down, no trouble 6 months in, in Mongolia. I trickle £500/month from Lloyds to N&P and all is right with the world.

Lloyds can 'jog on' in my opinion. I have been with them for 15 years and they dont give a S@&^) about customer loyalty (maybe I dont have enough money for them to care?)

So the account will drain and I will open another account in Aus when we land in September :) closing my Lloyds accounts when there is nothing left.

It's not just Lloyds - this will be an issue with any bank. They are unlikely to agree to send a replacement bank card out to a dodgy sounding overseas address. Ex pats who live/work overseas but continue to use a UK account also have this issue. I came across someone who despite living in Nairobi for many years was told they had to pick up their replacement card from their branch ... in Swindon... eventually after much negotiation it was agreed it could be sent to the British Embassy to be released against production of a passport.

If your card is due to be replaced whilst you're away get a new card issued before you go or arrange for whoever gets your post while you're away to send it out to you (obviously there are risks attached to this - if you have to get it sent to you get it couriered). If it's replaced unexpectedly like the OPs then it is a real pain.
