Leaving Colombia with a Colombian bike/ issues

Hey all!

I need someone with experience to reassure me that I can pass every border in South America with my bike and my license.

Situation:

I bought my Colombian bike with my cedula that will runs out soon after I leave Colombia. I've heard in other countries foreigners can't leave the country with a bike from that country especially if they don't have a reason to return.

Also I have a Colombian motorbike license, will that do for every country or would I need anything else?

Another thing, can you extend the permission on a bike in all the countries in South America like you can a tourist visa?

If anyone has experiences with these issues and could let me know the possibilities that would be fantastic.

Thanks folks

Do you have a Passport?
I realize a Cedula is your main ID there but for international travel you may need a passport.

Neighboring countries to Colombia probably allow a Cedula for entry but not sure about ALL countries. With a Passport ... you can pass through ALL countries. So, passport is best.

You did not say ... But I assume you are Colombian? Do you have legal title for your bike in your name? You need some sort of Title of ownership to pass most borders.

When you enter a new country you buy a TVIP (importada temporal)
In most countries, YES ... the TVIP can be extended like your visa, some countries, not.

I'm sure your Colombian motorbike license is good everywhere. Most countries only want to see your Passport.
Be careful who you give it to ...

Hi, I read your post with interest as I'll be in the same situation as you next year, leaving Colombia to head South on a Colombian bike and cedula which will expire shortly after I leave. I will be bringing it back to Colombia at some point. I hadn´t really considered the cedula to be a problem until now, but after nearly 3 years here I get why you´re worried.

So please let me know if you found anything out. My fiance is Colombian and she says we should also get the original importation document of the bike from the SIM. We´re only just beginning our fact finding mission, if you haven´t had much luck finding anything out yet then feel free to get in touch as we might be able to help.
