Leaving bike in South Africa - carnet and reg.plates?
 

Hey guys!

We are soon finishing our Croatia to Capetown journey on a bike (down the eastern part of the continent) and wish to leave bike there for few years before coming back and continuing journey up the west side of the continent...

What should i do with the carnet?
How long do they tolerate to keep the deposited money? I heard few years,
And what about extending carnet?

(or alternative - what happens if i enter on a TIP?)

And what about registration plates? I have to take them with me back home to cancel the registration after a year, but how do i get new plates later? And how do i get SAME plates later - in order to match those in all the documents?
