Iran visa nightmare

I have been trying to get a Iran visa for 2 months now. I even have it preapproved and I have sent the money via bank transfer.

The consulate says that they have not gotten the money. And they tell me "Please pay in Danske Bank".

I went to that bank, and they told me I need an account with them, they have a long line of people and it will take me about a week to open an account with them.

----

After all this time, is it worth to open a account with this other bank and send them the money again? Or will I just get scammed out of another 60 euros?

Should I try to get the visa in another country? Not really sure what to do about this...

It would help if you mentioned which Iranian embassy / consulate you are dealing with.

In my experience (obtaining Iranian visas in London, Bishkek, Islamabad, Munich, Yerevan and Erzurum) you pay the money either in cash, or more often to a branch of a nearby bank.

I can well imagine there is a rule among European banks that only account holders can pay into the embassy's account with them, just to cut costs and make the user experience even more frustrating. But as you don't state where you are applying, this is just an assumption.

I seriously doubt that the embassy / consulate is running some petty scam to take a few euros from you. More likely a mistake or some red tape regarding banking rules.

Iranian visas are easy to obtain on the road, so it may be simpler now to have your visa reference code sent somewhere nearby e.g. Erbil or Erzurum and just collect it there where banks are not so useless.

I have no idea about Danske Bank but I wouldn't be surprised if there were monthly fees to have an account, so that might further add to the cost if you persevere in your current location.

I am assuming you made an IBAN transfer to the same account in Danske where they want you to pay now?

Go to your own bank and ask for a receipt for that payment. (You can find the payment number in your online history, or they will find that for you.) Ask them to print a paper and put the bank's stamp and signature on it.

Alternatively, check that the money has not returned to your account - the transfer may have been rejected by either your bank or Danske because of "it's Iran" reasons.

I will open a account with Danske Bank, the embassy said that only that will work.

The 60 bucks I sent has been confirmed to be gone and wont get it back. It's probably confiscated by authorities because of "sanctions".

Helsinki, Finland

As a US citizen you will have a even harder time than me. Also been reading about many motorcyclist being detained by the government so I am reconsidering my trip.

Just as an update to this. I have decided to not visit Iran, it's simply not possible to get a visa atm in Finland.

I will be going to Algeria-Tunisia instead :)
