International travel bike reg questions - rtw from UAE
 

Hi All

Some thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

My wife and I currently live in and are residents of UAE, Dubai.

We would like to leave from here, on rtw trip, finishing in South Africa, where we would finally import the bikes back home.

Our problems are likely to be bike registration and carnet.

When we leave UAE, our residents visa etc are cancelled, and bikes may no longer be registered in our names. When one exports a bike from here, the registration plates are handed in and temporary export plates are issued, which are valid for 14 days.

South African authorities are prepared to issue us with carnets, but the bike registration and plates worry us.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.
