Insurance for Non EU European Countries
 

I am taking a trip from the UK to Turkey and back this summer on a UK registered bike.

I have insurance with Carole Nash that covers me for most of the countries automatically, but does not cover Turkey, Montenegro, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania and a couple of others.

What do people do for insurance for these countries? All I have seen on other posts is that they get it at the border, but its expensive...

Is this the only option? If not how else have people got round this? And what is expensive in this context? Any examples of how much paid for how long etc would be appreciated!

There are a number of posts re this query, mine included (well, somewhere anyway...). I recommend the region as a trip but certainly 80Euro for Serbian ins at the border is very pricey for a 2-day transit.Try contacting the various country's motoring orgs from home first to get the lowdown on the incountry cost rather than the often pricier border price. Or travel Italy to Bari, then to Greece where EU insurance is valid then across to Turkey. Or try German insurance co's which often cover the entire region (the Germans really get around you know!). Options are many. :thumbup1:

Thanks for the info - have looked into those but tbh reckon for the length of time I am going the hassle to cost factor is probably in favour of getting it at the border after all.

If insurance seems too high, then try skipping those countries. I just entered Croatia, no insurance check. 10 Euro for Montenegro (ok, 10 EU is high for a few hours of passing through, but what the heck, better than 80 for Serbia). Albania - no asking. Greece - your back in the Euro Zone.

So, 10 Euro extra for insurance to pass from Slovenia (still in the EU) through to Turkey.
