Info required for concurrent Australian visa

Evening folks,

heading off in April on a RTW trip on my bike and want to get a 2nd (Concurrent) passport before I leave.

To save me a lot of googling and looking at various countries visa requirements I'm after info from this in the know on which countries require you to send your passport back to the embassy in your home country for visa issue, at this stage I know Russia will require it for the 6 month business visa, believe India may also.

Can any Australia's advise of any of countries that require this, I wish to have all my ducks in a row when I speak with them in the comping week.

Cheers

Josh

Might be helpful giving us a list of countries you intend traveling through rather than expecting info for random selections out of 250 countries.

There is a wiki entry for visa requirements for australians that is pretty accurate for those flying in, but not always correct for those entering at land borders. Chile, Paraguay, India are three such.

As well as visas, you also need to look at Carnet requirements, especially if you need to renew it on the road.
As well as some countries needing you or your passport to be back in your home country when applying for visas, there is also the sometimes major problem that some visas are only good for first entry within a certain number of days of date of issue and some are pretty tight

Tony,

Am aware of carnet requirements and visa issuing and the timeframes involved, have been researching for some time. The second passport is something I hummed and arghhhh'd about and only just decided on getting.

I'm not going to list every country as things change on the road and there are to many to list, however the route will roughly be the following;. Australia - Europe via Asia then west coast of Africa to South Africa, then east coast Africa back to Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Stans, Mongolia and than the Americas from top to bottom.

Cheers

There are several justifications for 2 passports ...

One maybe the number of expected pages required for your trip.. you may well need 2 passports to complete a trip such as yours .. each visa takes some room, each non visa country takes a bit of room too.

I think Nigeria may also demonstrate your need .. possibly some other west coast African country/ies too?

Whatever the case .. I would leave the clean second passport in Australia (assuming you get it) with application/s for visas ready to send to the relevant embassy/ies. Have it sent on to the embassies then back to your safe person and they send it on to you .. preferably at some safe location ... I would not make this a big city but a small town .. this way there should only be one office to deal with rather than being sent from one office to another.

Good Luck.

Hi Warin,

Cheers for the info, leaving the 2nd passport back in Aus is a great idea that I hadn't thought of.

Will have a bit of a look at the west African countries visa requirements and get onto DFAT.

Cheers mate

Josh
