I´m also planning to go to Central & South America in a few years time, and would be curious to know, if there´s any company who can insure for such a trip.

Did Europe to Australia a year ago, and only had my own bike´s insurance from Finland valid in the so-called ´Green card´ countries, which in practice meant Europe, Turkey & Iran (was surprised, that it was actually valid in the last two). But from then on: Pakistan, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia, no insurance. Only took some 3rd party insurances locally in the countries, that require them.

Before the trip I did ask all insurance companies I could find, and they all said the same thing: only Green card-countries, and not possible for others, for any price.

It´s quaranteed to make travelling a bit more exciting, if you cant get the vehicle insured, I must say... and if this is also the case with Central and South America, I will certainly go for a cheapish bike, that hopefully wouldnt make me so sad, if its totally lost.

And I´m not so sure, if its wise to expect the cheap 3rd party compulsory insurances, that you´re sold at the border, to actually cover much.
