(Guatemala) Is bonded bike storage required?

I am currently on a trip from Arizona to Argentina. I have been studying Spanish in Guatemala for the last 3 months and having a great time with the trip. In a couple weeks I would like to fly back to the states for a family reunion. I have a friend I can leave the bike with in Guatemala, but I am not sure if I need to leave it at a Bonded Goverment Storage Fascility. Has anybody dealt with this issue? Is any paperwork required or can I just leave and return?

Thank you

Depends probably how long your vehicle permit is good for

If your permit for the bike expires you may have some problems when you try to leave the country. Though down there anything is possible, and it may not be an issue at all especially if you have a little extra money to spend at the border. If your title, registration, and your vehicle permit is in order (not to mention yours) and you trust your friend I can't think of anything farther from the governments mind then what is going on with your bike. Just have everything in order for when you leave the country.... Good luck, hope this isn't too late for you. I know one guy that has over 40 bikes stored all over the world, not sure exactly how he does this, but anything is possible.....
