Global Loss Damage Theft Insurance for Australian Registered Bike

Does any company currently offer your normal comprehensive theft/damage/total loss style motorcycle insurance for an Australian (NSW) registered bike for countries other than Australia?

Alternatively, are there legitimate and reliable foreign companies that will offer such insurance to foreign registered vehicles being used within their countries under a carnet?

Or is the bravest part of riding my 2023 R 1250 GSA RTW the risk of flat out losing AUD 43,000 when it gets nicked or I put it into a deep ditch beyond recovery?

I believe your final comment is correct, it is a risk all of us who have travelled with more expensive vehicles has taken at some time or other, it could be there is an insurance option now although not that I am aware of but if so hopefully someone will be along to point you in the right direction.

As an insurance broker and specialist for overlanding and rally race clients, such product that you are looking for doesn't exist and will never exist.
Variables to make such things are impossible to define and such the premium would be impossible to calculate etc.
We really know a lot about this as we design specific products ourselves and don't resell of the shelf products for a fee. Building such product for overland community is very very hard and there are only few companies doing it.

Take a used BMW for such trip bellow 10 K EUR and you will be just fine. Or take any other bike for that matter.

Hi Greg:

Dooby & Mark are correct - no-one sells theft insurance for operation outside of the country in which the vehicle is registered. There are a few exceptions due to treaties, for example, Canadian insurance covers you in the USA and vice-versa, and I believe that insurance issued in one EC country "usually" covers you in other EC countries, but there is no such thing as "global" theft or collision.

Many years ago, I was able to obtain collision insurance (e.g. if I dumped my bike into a ditch) on my Canadian motorcycle while I was using it in Europe, but it was awfully expensive and quite restrictive. I bought it one year, but never again after that.

You didn't mention what specific countries you plan to tour in, but if your destination is Europe, you might want to consider renting a bike similar to your own. For periods of up to about 6 weeks (for Antipodes) or 4 weeks (for North America), renting is cheaper than shipping, and the bike you rent will "probably" come with collision and theft insurance included.

I'm sure it will be REQUIRED, though you will have to pay for it, but at least it's available.

As PanEuropean says, for short trips it's generally cheaper to rent than ship. If you're going on a long trip, you're self-insured, always has been and as mentioned above, probably always will be. Well, I should correct that - I'm sure you COULD get it, Lloyds of London will insure anything - but I guarantee you won't want to pay the price. (I've checked with them on something slightly related, and wow do they charge!)

Thank you al for the comments. I assumed such insurance was impossible to obtain for all the reasons mentioned ands that self-insurance was the only option.

But no harm in asking.

It will put just that much more Adventure into the whole project!

But if I lose the uninsured 2023 R 1250 GSA I won’t spend much time crying. I will simply buy a guitar and busk singing Rodney Rude songs on some thirld World street corner until I can buy the cheapest two-wheeled something to keep moving!!
