Getting in to China
I successfully made it into China through the Irkishtam Pass without the correct paperwork. I had a visa for myself but not for the bike. When i arrived at the main border point i was asked who was meeting me. After admiting no one was i was requested to take a taxi into Kashgar, where i was directed to the Customs department. They sent for Jiang at www.newlandtravel.net who arranged the requisite paper work in 4 days at a cost of $400, including the truck which had to take me the final 90kms from Taxkorgan to the border - Chinese regulations!
I was allowed to ride un-guided from the border point to Kashgar once i had returned with the correct paperwork. All in all i would not recomend this way of getting into and out of China. At one point they threatened to march me and the bike back to Kyrgyzstan under armed guard! Enjoy China!! :nono: |
