From Israel (or Turkey) to Switzerland..Paperwork?

Hi there

I'm Swiss and currently in Tel-aviv and I'm Planning to buy a Motorbike here in Tel-Aviv or Turkey, whichever is easier or more recommented and drive it back home to Switzerland. My Understanding is for this Route I will not need a Carnet de Passage, I have a Swiss Motorbike Driving Licence in Credit Card Format. I will still need a Insurance Card, which I should get easily here, right ? anything else missing ?

Advice Please

Greetings

Moritz

It would be easier to buy a bike in Turkey for the simple fact that Syria will not let you in if they find any evidence of you having been to Israel. Getting a bike out of Israel without some sort of paper trail would be difficult. You don't need a carnet in any of the countries you pass through, although it does speed up the paperwork at the borders. Insurance can be purchased at the borders, and a green card would suffice from Turkey onward (depending on your route).

so, I will get a turkish Licence Plate ? In Switzerland I can swap the Plate for a Swiss Licence Plate without much additional cost ? Import tax etc..

I am not sure, if they sell you a bike in Turkiye if you dont have a residance permit. I am in Germany now and will try to find it for you when i get back to Turkiye.

also buying a bike in Turkiye is much more expensive then buying in EU because of high tax rates. you have to pay app %55 tax + 150 Euro to get the registration document. this tax and rules applies for Turkish citizens. I am not sure if you have to pay more or if you get a tax back at the costums.. (btw the %55 tax applies only the bike above 125cc - might be also 250cc not so sure.)

if you are leaving israel and moving to Switzerland, my recommendation is get a bike in Switzerland and ship it to Israel or Turkiye and ride from there. Even if you have to pay same money, be sure it would be much less paperwork and time consuming for you.

enjoy
