Flying a motorbike out of Australia?
I cant find anyone to help me with this, I have almost given up and resigned to the fact that it cant be done.
I will have to ride from brisbane to darwin just to find an agent that knows anything about getting a bike out of Australia. After 4 phonecalls each to CT freight and bikesabroad.com.au. Im not getting any clear answers at all and it feels like to me they dont know themselves. I already have a steel export bike crate and a Carnet and permission to import into Indonesia. Both these guys tell me a used motorcycle with a purge declaration is not considered dangerous goods. IATA disgree by the look of michels (PanEuropean) post about the subject. I want my bike in Indonesia asap, riding up to Darwin and having to go through the wait of container ships and Timor isnt something I want to do again. I have flown my bike out of Thailand and helped a friend fly his bike out of Kathmandhu both processes were so easy and painless. You would think Australia would be easier. Im about to ring them and scream at them how hard can it be. It is their job ffs its what they do! How do they make any money!! Arrrrggghhhh |
Look at http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/get...type=continent
See the ones that are 'recommended' and 'shipment method air' and ring up those. They have done it before. beer Possible problems? The place you want to get to has no freight shipments.. ! The air shipment to where you want to go are fairly full ... that leads to delays in finding space for your bike. The place you want to get to has few shipments.. you might have to chose a different place. Usual choosing an air hub is cheapest and best. |
Hi,
I am flying my bike out of Melbourne in two weeks time. I have to get a cert saying that it is purged of fuel and battery terminals isolated. I contacted Paul at Talk Cargo and he has been wonderful. Found a mention of him buried in someone else's shipping experience from years ago and glad I did because I found no clear answer from anyone else. Email is paul@talkcargo.com and phone is 1300799362\ Best of luck! |
Once complete - i.e. you have the bike in your hands - please put your shipping experience on the HU page .. that will help others. Good luck.

I am going through Ivan at BikesAbroad...seems to be working fine for me.
send bike to dealer and dealer will purge and crate the bike, providing a purge certificate to the airline and off the bike goes basically. Didn't mention any difficulty in getting the airlines to accept it as not dangerous with the certificate provided by a dealer (not just any idiot I guess). I am flying the bike to Denpasar or Jakarta depending on what that volcano is up to come new year (I myself will be flying to Denpasar or Jakarta on the 04/01/2018. Bike is getting flown from Sydney FYI. Regards, Ben. |
