Customs paperwork needed for Genoa?

We are about to ship our UK registered bikes from Bangkok to Genoa port. Does anybody know if Genoa customs demand to see any documents other than normal registration docs and driving licences/IDP's? We can show them the carnet though this is irrelevant.

IE do they insist on seeing valid insurance and evidence of current road tax. We can get the insurance but have no UK road tax as have been away for over 12 months.

Also do you know if you can unload and drive away in Genoa or do you have to arrange a truck? Many thanks for urgent response as need to decide on shipping to Italy or back to GB (boring!) by tomorrow!

Ok, I guess i am late in replying, but in principle if your bike is registered in uk (or any eu member state) the will just ask you the registration documents and the insurance (green card valid for all the european countries) not the road tax that is just related to uk and in many country is directly checked at the moment of issuing the insurance papers.
