Croatia Insurance at the border ?

Hi We are currently in Slovinia and plan to cross the border into Croatia next week but on our green card Croatia is crossed out as our insurers wont cover it. How do we go about getting insurance, is it available to buy at the border or do you have to get the bus into the nearest town ?

Any info current or historic would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Jim

You have GB registration?
As it stated here you don't need an insurance for Croatia Hrvatski ured za osiguranje
If you need one you can buy it at the border from 111 kuna (cca 15€).
Cheers

We were never asked to purchase insurance for Croatia and we were never checked when we were in Croatia Sept 2010.

We entered on the coast and left via Bosnia, re-entered and left again into Slovenia. So there aren't many checks if any for GreenCard.

If you have a problem and don't have the GreenCard then that is another issue altogether. I personally would prefer to have a valid GreenCard then be caught without in the case of an accident.

They will check for green card if you enter bosnia (not on coast pass) or montenegro.
I think that they (croatia) have some kind of insurance agreement, so no problem if you don't have a green card.

Hi
I'm from Croatia, Zagreb. As far as I know you should be able to come without any problems if you have a green card. Maybe if you have kasko insurance it's not covered in Croatia, but that will not stop you from entering and traveling around. As francs said, you can go through info at Hrvatska odbojkaška udruga

If you want, send me a PM if you have some problems geting around or we can meet for a drink if you pass through Zagreb so I can give you some pointers what could you visit while in Croatia.

Have a nice trip.

Petar

Hi Guys, Thanks for the info, we don't want to drive in Croatia without insurance so will go for the border insurance if it is only €15..... I will post back when we have crossed over with any relevent information.

@ Petar Thanks for the offer of a beer in Zagreb I am not sure if and when we will make it there but will give you a shout if we do.

Just to update this post we crossed the border which was just a passport flash and didnt even stop the van. No insurance to buy at the border so we drove to Umag and bought one months cover at an insurance office for €65. Cheers James

If your vehicle is registered in the EU and you have EU insurance, you will probably find a very small printed bit on the certificate that says that it is also valid for the minimum requirements in countries acting under EU directives. We did.

In our land rover in August we paid 110 Euro for 1 month in Serbia, 15 Euro for two weeks in Montenegro and 47 Euro for a week in Bosnia all at the border.
