China - Tourist or Transit Visa (Laos to Mongolia)??

Hi everyone - just about to apply for my Chinese visa and not sure if I should be applying for a Tourist or Transit visa. We will enter China from Laos (Mohan) and exit at Mongolia (Erlianhaote). We'll be driving our own vehicle also.

This feels like it should be a Transit via but is there any reason/thoughts otherwise?

Thanks
Phil

Hi Phil,

We did the same trip across China in our campervan in April this year and had a tourist visa. We took about 25 days. We had to have a Chinese guide accompany us and the guide company also prepared all the paperwork for the vehicle and route for the Chinese government although the rules could have changed since then. We used Navo Tours. Let me know if we can help with any further info or have a look at our blog at travelpod.com/members/redtilly

Regards
Barbara

Tourist visa it is!

Hi Barbara,

Many thanks for your reply - I'm interested in your trip through China so will follow your blog and see how you did things. We have just agreed our itinerary ourselves (we managed to form a group of 5 vehicles - Laos-Mongolia) with Weitu so processing the booking now.

Interesting that a tourist visa is normal and not transit, but will send the app in regardless. I guess I just need to ensure my group all have the same type of visa so there is no confusion at the Laos/China border.

Thanks again - maybe expect a couple of questions from me when I have read your blog...

Regards
Phil
