Central Europe to Mongolia - Summer 2018

Hi guys,

I decided to do it finally, so I want to go Prague -> Mongolia -> Prague this summer. I'm not doing deep research (interesting places, exact routes etc.) because I like surprises but about the papers I want to be sure that everything is smooth and I will able to entry the country.

So I want to ask all people who been in these (below) countries in last two years for their experience. I expect, that I don't need visa from my country for all the countries up to Turkey. But what about the next one, which visa did you have from your country? I have limited period of time in my country so I want to be sure which visa I need to have before.

The route is "copy" of Mongol Race, but I want to do it by myself, separately and at the time I want.

My plan:

Czech Republic
Austria
Hungary
Serbia
Bulgaria
Turkey
Georgia
Azerbaijan

-- FERRY TO Turkmenistan --

Turkmenistan
Uzbekistan
Tajikistan
Kyrgystan
Kazakhstan
Russia
Mongolia

-- ON THE WA BACK: --

Mongolia
Russia
Ukraine
Slovakia
Czech Republic

:scooter:

So I will be happy for all tips and recommendations, thank you guys!

Hi, maybe we see you on the road somewhere in Mongolia :)

For Turkey you can get a visa stamped into the passport at the border.

For Mongolia you can only get a tourist visa of 30 days, and you need to enter within 3 months after receiving it. But you can extend it in the country with another 30 days.

For the Russian visa, you can read the detailed info here in this post:

Basically, you can decide to use a tourist visa and come back on a transit visa (or try to get another tourist visa). Or arrange a multi entry business visa, which is not always possible as you must have been in Russia before. But this rule is not followed at every embassy so maybe you can just get it.

Note re your plans

A few points to consider:

1. You cannot enter Armenia directly from Turkey - you need to go via Kars and into Georgian first and then downward to Armenia.

2. You certainly cannot go from Armenia into Azerbaijan - the countries are at war. Again you would have to go up via Georgia.

I suggest you re-route your trip / check border crossings more carefully.

Thank you cliffi!

Sounds like that I will need to skip Armenia for this trip after checking the map, but it looks "smooth" to go thought Georgia directly to Azerbaijan then. My goal is Mongolia, so it's fine and I will do it. Thank you for the info again! Do you know about some other info I should to check/know abotu this area/trip?

Oh thanks for so helpful informations Lovetheworld! And sorry that I'm responding to you later, I didn't see your reaction here. doh

My friend told me about the Turkey same stuff so it's perfect. I will check the Russian stuff more detailed, thanks for sharing! BTW what's your home country (EDIT: sorry I'm new here but yes, I see your Location tag :) sorry for the question and saying hi to Holland) and which visa you will get before? :) And great to see that you will go there as well! Stay in contact. :)

We're still doubting which visa to take. The business visa would be best, but we have to get it outside Holland it seems.
By the way, we travel as a family with a 4x4 campervan, so not a biker ;)

I saw your profile, looks really cool. Would be great to share the experience on the way. :) Today I have call with my friend who been there last year, want to ask him for couple of questions but not about Russia, he ended up in Kazachstan...
