Carnet (UK) - RAC Issues

I'm having an issue now with the RAC. I put the application nearly a month ago knowing that it takes about this long to do the application. Since then I've rang perhaps 10 times for updates and still not received a quotation, which is the standard process. Jessica occasionally phones back (I nearly always hit the answerphone and always get the answerphone in the morning as no one is in the office then) but I keep getting the 'in process' response.

I only need the Carnet for October but I'm now away from my UK address on the RTW trip and signing/picking up will be difficult. I'll have a week back in the UK late September but that is it - after that I've a few weeks before the Carnet is required.

Are there any other organisations, or who licenses the RAC to do the Carnets? Clearly they are not handling the contract, or the work load is too great. I'm in need of alternative options in case the RAC keep bolloxing this up.

Cheers, Andrew

The RAC are the only people who can issue a carnet for a UK reg vehicle.

I was told nearer 6 weeks, and to email enquiries?

:)

It's one month on their website, but I haven't even had the quotation back. I'm worrying about it now and hope it doesn't put a spanner in the works.

Hi,
I've just recieved my carnet today.
I can sort of relate to what you're saying.
Jessica did answer most of the times i tried though, and always replied to answer phone messages by the next day the couple of times i left a message.
For a while it felt like she said all the right things on the phone, but not very much happened.
I took the stance that it was down to me to chase the next stage of things. Whenever i sent them anything, i followed it up three of four days later with a call.
You could fairly argue that shouldn't be necessary, but it all ended well.
Emails were better at times, quite a few went back and forth, but they are no substitute for talking to someone a lot of the time.

It's a process i'm glad to have behind me, but the possibilities it opens up WAY outway the agro.

Good luck, i really hope you're sorted soon
Sam

Similar to us. We started the ball rolling with the paperwork very late June, carnet will be with us by monday the latest they said on the phone. Think the delay is beacuse Paul Gowen is not in the office full time at the moment. Keep in contact and fingers crossed!

Pretty much the same as myself. Have you had the quotation back yet?

Sam, how long did it take for you in the end?

Hi Andrew,
I first made contact with Jessica around the 1st June, discussed all sorts and got the ball rolling.
I sent the application, all required scans and photos to support my low valuation on the 10th June, but did not include the bank guarentee/insurance forms (as discussed with Jessica. I wanted to get the valuation ok'd before deciding how to finance it).
Then began a period of in-activity.
I phoned to see what was going on and got the 'you didn't send us all the paperwork' response.
It was a bit annoying as we had discussed every detail of what i was doing before hand.
They ok'd the valuation pretty quickly after that (even expressed some concern about taking such a rust bucket accross Africa :innocent:)
There was about a week wasted between me getting the quote and actually paying it and it turned up 26th July.

I know it's a ball ache, but keep trying them on the phone.
They are busy, but i do believe they try to be helpful and know what it means to us.
Hope you get it through soon. It will be worth it!
