Carnet. I'm an idiot.

I got lots of wonderful help from the people in the RAC at Bristol. Thanks Paul and Sue. Amongst the heaps of essential help they advised me to list every country I might visit. Which did not include at the time Pakistan and India.

Of course times and plans change. And now there is an outside chance that I might go there. I guess it is impossible to extend countries. Is it an impossible task to try and get in without these or just ludicrously expensive?

I have of course mislaid their e-mail address just to compound the error.

Told you I was an idiot.

Cheers George

I'll steer clear of any comment...

Search the site for "Paul Gowen"

To "extend countries" you need to get the carnet reissued - possible, but costs - of course http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif.

IMpossible to get in without carnet.

No need to be melancholy.
I had a similar problem due to a change of plans. I was forced to go through Jordan and Syria, which were not mentioned in my carnet, good for all African countries. This is what I did: From Cairo I phoned the office of the CAA (Canadian Automobile Association) which had issued the carnet, and asked that these two countries be included. The CAA sent me to the Egyptian AA to get and tell them the name of the local head honcho. Then the CAA faxed my (their) request to this man personally. He endorsed my carnet for the two countries requested for a fee (US$20). You can try this with the issuer of your carnet. Of course you will have to present yourself to the head office of the AA in the country where you are at the time.
Try it. It just might work.

Thanks for the info Grant and Werner.

Looks like I'll be getting on the blower and forking out the wallet. Or change plans again.

Cheers George
