Buying a used bike in Delhi and required paperwork?
 

Hi all, Long time listener first time caller here.

I'm headed to Delhi at the end of the month and wanted to get advice on what paperwork you need to get when buying a used bike and the process involved in getting third party insurance.
I realize you cannot register a bike in your name on a tourist visa, but how do people get around this and how difficult is crossing into Nepal currently?
Do you need to go buy third party insurance or does the insurance that's comes with the bike cover it?
Any other advice about buying a used bike in Delhi would be appreciated, I was thinking about buying one from a classified instead of a dealer as there are some cheap bikes available , bad idea?

plenty of western tourists riding Indian plated bikes in Nepal, I don't know the ins and outs of what paperwork is needed.

NB you can buy 30 days of tax for riding an indian plate bike in Nepal. If it expires then the police can and will confiscate the bike.. although you can pop to the indian border and buy more tax.

Anyone know if ill have trouble crossining the india nepal border with a delhi plated bike registered in someone elses name? what forms do they check at the border or is it one of those drive too fast and you'll miss it borders ?
