What papers do i need to get to do so? MY original plan was to buy one in italy and ride it down the west cost of africa, but just found out i have to be here for three months in order to buy one.. WHats the EU for anyway! :-) hope somebody can help me, as i will then fly down to south africa and drive up to zambia. .thank you

Hey Erik,

It's fairly easy to do, there are just a few steps you have to follow and related documentation depends somewhat on the countries you are planning on travelling through. As a new user you can't use the private messaging function (pm) until you have 8 posts but feel free to email me if you have specific questions. Cheers.

bike in Cape Town

Actually, I sell a bike in Cape Town. It´s a R80 G/S 1992 but looks new. I bought it from a guy who runs the German Television in Nairobi. Now she is about 35.000 km in the clock. New tyres, new oil filter, new engine start... I rode it from Nairobi to Cape Town trhough Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbaue, Bostwana and Namibia and she worked perfectly. The only problem is there are not documents but only the sheet the Kenyan Revenue Authority gave to me when I left the country and the temporary south african permit of import. So, no paperwork at all to buy it and there are not going to ask you for papers being a Kenyan bike and you a foraigner citizen. What you should do if you want to register the bike is ride her back to Kenya (what a good trip) and take de logbook back at the Kenya/Tanzania border. But if you want to arrive Zambia, there is not problem at all. I crossed all the borders and only at Zimbabue I had to pay a bribe to get her in.

bike not for selling

My previous post was old. If someone is interested in my GS, I m sorry to say is not for selling any longer. I am riding her again and pretty happy even having an accident near Mossel Bay. Anyway, as this model was never brought to SA, there are few guys expert in BMW who want to buy it.
