Bike insurance needed in South Africa?
 

I'm heading to South Africa soon. I'm British, bike is American. I assume I'll need to get some sort of insurance for the bike. Can I get insurance that covers more than just South Africa? Anyone used a reliable company?

3rd party vehicle insurance isn't compulsory in South Africa.

If you are leaving South Africa and want 3rd party, you can buy a Comesa Yellow Card, covering most of southern & east Africa. If you are heading to west Africa, buy an Ecowas Brown Card. Both are probably cheaper and more easily bought outside South Africa (Zim or Zam are usual for the Yellow Card).

If you want comprehensive insurance covering theft etc, then probably best to contact a mainstream vehicle insurer when you arrive.
