Vladivostok to London May/June 2012

Anyone going that way at that time ?
Staying on the road hence riding a sport/tourer.

pympster 29 Nov 2011 19:09

You're going the wrong way!!! Damn.... haha good luck!

jc_bromley 1 Dec 2011 13:11

I agree with pympster, you clearly have your map upside down.....

bushman_uk 1 Dec 2011 16:34

one advantage you will have that you will gain time through the eight ? time zones across Russia ,
Done the trip this year headed west from the UK ro ro to the USA and container to Vladivostok .
louiekiwi if you can't find anyone to ride with still do it the Siberians are so friendly and will always help you out if needed . There is plenty of traffic on the roads , so you wouldn't have to wait long for help.
Loved the experiance and if i could get the funds i would certainly head out that way again :thumbup1:

louiekiwi 3 Dec 2011 10:56

Upside Down ?

No. To me everyone in the northern hemisphere is standing on their heads.
Mark, a lot of travelers want to go through that big paddock called Mongolia. Never mind, I enjoy my own company.
I know Russians, I have no reservations regarding them. I do however have some concern about bears if/when I camp. But still, on the bright side there are no unpleasant things like snakes, poisonous spiders, crocadiles, or Australians.

bushman_uk 3 Dec 2011 13:03

Bears shouldn't be a problem if you camp fairly close to the main road, store your food away from the tent and bike . we did look for them and even had a look in sand and mud but no prints
Martin was worried by them so i cut a long staff and a big sharp point, he asked if this would protect him i said no but at least it can pick it's teeth after it's eaten you !!

Insects are the biggest problem feckin zillions of em , some great big buggars follow the exhaust fumes and the mossies work on numbers, the first million you can kill but one always gets through, and mind the deet on anything plastic !

As for aussies i have it on good authority that there are a few herds wandering around , we came across a small herd with a calf at the watering hole, but no worries they are usually friendly lol

Who told you that? Russia has almost everything!

Snakes, including poisonous ones, can be found everywhere in Russia except permafrost areas in the very north. Although I have not seen one in 7 years travelling around almost everywhere in Russia.

Spiders (poisonous), Scorpions etc can be found in the dryer semi-desert areas around the lower Volga regions (Astrakhan etc) the Caspian Sea and probably parts of the Caucases too.

Australians are to be found at most watering holes.

I think you are OK about Crocodiles!

"Who told you that? Russia has almost everything!"

Thanks Tony
My Russian friend here in New Zealand ! Sergey Kuchinskiy. He must be trying to kill me.

Mark. They (Ausies) can't help themselves from repeating jokes regarding us and sheep. They come here in droves for the better climate and struggle to find 11 or 15 men from a population of 22 million to our 4, that can beat us in a game of cricket or rugby. If you go there and they ask you "Do you have any criminal convictions ?" The appropriate reply is
"I thought it was a prerequisite"
Mark what is Deet ?

louiekiwi 4 Dec 2011 08:21

Aussies are ok.

Almost everyone has a cousin that was a criminal.

bushman_uk 4 Dec 2011 14:46

Deet is an insect repellant it comes in varying strengths , i did hear that it is soon to be banned in the EU, not sure the reasoning behind the ban, but it is good stuff
