G'Day Ari,
It looks like we have 4 bikes to go in the container. You would make 5. It is all about getting the bikes and gear to Vladivostok in one piece by 1st June, and doing it as cheaply as possible. We have a good shipping agent lined up in Sydney and another in Vladivostok, as well as accomodation in Vladivostok. It should take about 6 days to clear the bikes in Vlad. Easy to spend a few days relaxing there. It would be great to ride together, we will take about 4 months to get to Europe, via the "Stans"

How you get to Magadan

Hey Chris,

I made the ride from Inuvik to Ushuaia solo 2 Decembers ago, and last December I was invited to test ride an F800 gs, crisscrossing the Andes to Punta Arenas from Santiago, which I did. I would like to make the ride from Siberia to Europe but I would like to make it in 2 or 3 months as I still have a family at home. From what I hear, May might be early and June could be better. I just returned from the Horizons meeting in Nakusp B.C. where I talked with riders who had come from Europe to Siberia. When I went south, I rode a BMW 650 gs. For this ride, I have a new 2007 KLR650. What about you?

Erik

How are you thinking to get to Siberia? A Friend and I are planning a trip (May 2010) from México to North America and then flight to Russia. If we don’t found the way to get directly to Magadan, are going to star in Vladivostok (we have found already the correct airline), pass thru Mongolia and Kazajstan, and get finally to Europe, via Finland, in September 2010 (is the first part of our RWT).

Chris,
Looking good for 4 - lets hope for a few more to keep costs down.

G'day all

I am also lookign at a trip across Europe around the Caspian Sea in starting in May 2010.

My mate bob in London is the ideas man, but we are looking at starting in London, my R1200GSA is booked to London and return (just over $3k).

Plan is pick up bike - leave London 8 May head east around the caspian and be back in London around 8 weeks later. Journey is calculated at around 400k per day so things can be seen as well. May have some issue getting into Iran as lots of stories about tourists being turned away at the border.

Originally there was six or so of us travelling. Me the only one from Aus. All Bob's UK mates have withdrawn.

If any of you are up for it, happy for you to join along. We start the Stans visa process in the next month.

I'll put up a separate post called Caspian 2010 and will use that for advice seeking and planning updates.

cheers fellas
Dave

Hi all. I just finished 7 1/2 months solo around South America, but by next year I'll definitely be ready for another bike adventure.

I'm off in 2 weeks to work in South Korea (teaching business at a university). I've heard it's actually quite easy to get self and bike to Vladivostok from there. I'll be working in Seoul until the end of May, then would be very interested in the ride (or at least part of it). I'm particularly interested in Mongolia.

Let's keep in touch.

Steve,
Are you still going to be in Korea until May 2010 and then head over to Russia? I have been planning the same RTW route and expect to be in Korea and take the ferry to Russia. From what I have found it is the best way to get the bike to Russia, ship it to Korea and take the ferry to Russia. I am looking for someone to ride with through Siberia.

Hi Chris / Simon,

Planning for a 2-up ride from NSW to Darwin, then S/E Asia ( Singapore or Malaysia entry ) , Vietnam, China then Mongolia. Decide which way then... soo many options !.. but looks like being back into China and the Old Silk road, Tibet and Nepal, then pickup Alexanders path.

Leaving early March to catch the end of the Wet season, then be in Mongolia early Summer ?.

Keen to find other travellers going in either direction so please keep in touch and a beer anywhere would be great !

Cheers !
Frank.

Hi Bergrider,
I am interested to know how you manage this. I was looking to come from EU through Stans into China, Tibet and Nepal. China seems to be very difficult to get into on your own (ie without a guide) and is expensive to bring your own bike in ($2000). [If this is true then I will fly to Nepal instead and do Tibet as a foot tour!] However, if you find out different then I might resurrect the bike trip

Cheers
W!

I'm new to this thread - but am also hoping to go RTW leaving London in May - ship bike to New York (I need to be in Colorado for the first week of June) then perhaps up to Alaska and ship the bike over to Jpan(iuf I can afford it), then ferry to Vladivostock (perhaps via South Korea) then Monglia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Finalnd, etc. back to the UK.

I ride a KTM 990 Adventure and have some off-road experience (mostly in the Libyan Sahara but on a much smaller/lighter bike). I've also ridden in Siberia before a couple of years ago - but only around Ekaterinburg (on a URAL with a sidecar!). I don't speak any Russian though...

Would be good to meet up with anyone else on the road at the same time - for a beer, and maybe ride part of the route together...?
