venezuela to the falkland islands and beyond!!!!
 

Am trying to put together a long ride but starting in venezuela( where i was as a kid) and riding down to the falklands where i was born. Need to know if anybody else is on simila journey and if venezuela is still a great country. Not setting off until oct at earliest. Also only a 2 fingered typist.

Hiya Tree Climber,
At the moment I am living and working in Venezuela, Puerto La Cruz. It is kind of dangerous here, robberies mostly, but they seem to happen in the cities. I understand that Caracas is considered the most dangerous city in south america now.

Having said that, I am still planning on riding my motorbike down this summer from the states. Most likely flying the bike from Panama to Caracas. I am out on the weekends on my mountain bike (on the roads mostly), and haven't been bothered even when riding alone. So what to do. It is still a beautiful country and I think the rural areas are really safe except by the Columbian boarder where there seem to be skirmishes every once and a while. You might want to read up on Chavez. He is something.

Glad to know that there are other people on the planet not worried by a bit of madness and mayhem. Am currently still in warm and sunny england, uk, sorting out loose ends. I'll be starting a trip from Florida by early August, first up to Alaska and then south, planning to take the Caracas-Manaus-southern Peru-Bolivia-Argentina route.
ETA in Caracas should be somewhere around mid October.I'll be riding a GS1150Adv.
I'm really interested on the details of your plan of crossing to the Falklands, in particular from where, and how expensive, that would be (being native yourself probably know better than anybody else)also I don't know if you plan to go by the Atlantic coast or if you have a different route in mind.
