Vancouver to Baja
 

Beginning of April...on KLR...solo
Vancouver to Phoenix...mount TKC's...ride in AZ with LC4 friend...head to Baja.

I should be in Baja 2nd week of April, for about a month...maybe some mainland too.
As much dirt/sand/camping as I can handle?!

Anyone going to be around, and want to ride?

I live in Yuma, AZ and am hoping to have a "cheap" Chinese 200cc enduro by then. Depending on your route, I might be able to join you for a little bit, provided its on the weekend, but I don't to slow you down, either! Let me know your details, and we'll see if we can meet up, if not just for a drink.

I forgot to mention, keep in mind the heat this time of year. I'm sorry for not knowing the metric temp., but the temperature could be in the low 100's Faranheit by then. Just keep this in mind!

I'm tryin' not to be in a hurry for this trip, so we will keep in touch and see what happens.

Yip, it's gonna be hot, which is why I plan to be through by the end of May, cause that's when it really turns on.

You are gettin' a bike from one of the "new" Chinese co's? Which one?
There is only one Chinese motorbike co up here, and they don't do any enduros...yet.
It'll be interesting to see what happens with all that.

I am looking into either KPX motors (which are manufactured by Zongshen) and sold out of Tucson, or one of the Zongshen branded bikes. From what I gather, Zongshen and Lifan are two of the "top of the heap" when it comes to Chinese manufactured bikes. I am considering selling either Zongshen or KPX Motors ATV's and bikes in Yuma, unless someone picks them up before me. I really want to evaluate KPX or Zongshen before I invest any considerable $$ into even a small dealership.

My friend may be out of town on the way down, any chance I may be able to borrow a piece of your driveway (if you have one) to change my tires (I'll use tools, not actually your driveway)?

That should be no problem, using the driveway and all. I am getting very close to ordering a Lifan 200cc enduro bike, unless I hear from the Zongshen guy. (I asked to purchase a sample of their 200cc enduro, but have not heard back). Whether or not I sell them, I am still purchasing something for my own use, and it should be here by the time you roll through, but if not, I'm "stuck" here, and I'll be here regardless.

I forgot to mention, I had a question on the South America/Mexico thread about things to see and places to ride to close to the US/Mexico border, or at least within a day or two ride from Yuma, and got some responses (if you are familiar with northern Mexico).

Hopefully a bike will come through for you.

At this point I think I may be in AZ. on Friday April 7, which will give us the W/E to ride if you have a machine. I'll let you know more when I know for sure.

highway 101
-free camping right off the hiway on oceans edge
just south of crescent city by big lagoon (cold and windy..r.v's a plenty))
-at clam beach (popular camp spot)at trinidad exit
usually hippies & homefree camping there.

-****quiet sand dunes near manilla, towards samoa cookhouse south off (255) west of eureka. by some kind of giant paper pulp mill industrial building.
its a peninsula thing & NEAR end of the road there. beautiful dunes.

_im off hwy 96 on the klamath river . tiny town in the mountains.
beautiful curvy muntain roads. usually warmer & drier than the coast.
camp anywhere along hwy 96 on the river no hassle.

We have the "big 4" (Honda, Suzuki, Kawi, and Yamaha) brands in town, and I will let you know. My next door neighbor happens to own the Harley dealership, here, in Yuma, and might be able to order them. Are you going thru Phoenix? You will have better luck there. If you are going thru California instead, you should have many places to choose from. I won't have a bike by the 7th, but will be around if you come thru here. Keep me posted with your plans.

Those spots are really free? Wow, I never would have though there was much left of that kind of thing there.

So you are heading to Baja as well. How long are you spending there?
I'll let you know when I will be coming down through your area, and if you are still there we can meet up...or otherwise maybe down in Baja somewhere.
I'm planning on leaving here Apr. 3/4, CA in 2 days, so you may be gone already.

Let me know if you are coming thru Yuma.

It looks like I am picking up tires in Las Vegas from ThumperTalk...only place I have found so far that have them, and have an actual store. I would still like to swap out tires on your driveway if I can. I should be there on Friday. Does that work for you?
