I'm leaving in September from Alberta on a blue tiger 800. I'll follow along and maybe we will cross pathes!

We will definitely post details of our trip and might even do a travel blog. |
I'll be on the stahlratte to cross the darien but I think you may be coming through a bit late. Last sailing for the year is mid November I believe. I have heard some talk of a ferry running semi-regularily though.

Stahlatte
Last sailing is Nov 27 out of Panama.(I'm on that sailing) I checked earlier this week they still had room, on both sailings in Oct & Nov. You should get on it, not sure how busy it is that time of year.

Lucky for me I was on a '03 Africa Twin 750, which was a lot more serious off-road bike than the new Africa Twin 1000s. |
After November 27th, what are our options?
I'm not sure, there are other sailboats apparently. Or flying the bike. |
Hi ...I will sail from San Blas on October 30 too ... my WhatsApp +393483919787 ... :)

Possible team member for trip south
Gentlemen how is the trip going?
I am currently in Alaska taking a break....I left GS ADV in San Diego on the 7th after getting caught in the Hurricane in Lapaz and having an accident. Will fly back to San Diego and start south again. 45 retired military on 2016 gs/adv put 28k on bike solo in last 9 months mainly Mexico/USA and Canada. Looking to team up with others. No schedule or agenda other than looking for a new place I might call home. Look forward to hearing from you. Be safe Jarin |

So there are many options for crossing the darian gap I wouldn't worry to much about it until you get closer to Panama. You for sure will not be stuck there haha.
1.There is the roro service which stands for roll on roll off. It's a big container ship that they take your bike with your keys and roll it on the boat and you fly across and collect it in the Colombian port. Let me just say now the Colombian side of things is way more organized! 2. There is also the option of a shipping container(which is what I did) now the shipping container comes in two different sizes 20 foot and a 40 foot. Now one good thing about this is you can find a few guys along the way and share the cost by say putting two vans and two bikes in a 40 foot container. I did a car and my bike in a 20 foot can. 3. You can also go to Portobello in Panama and see what boats are sitting in the port and ask around if any one can take you to Colombia. (We did this as well, and ended up taking a free 12 day tour of san blas) I personally do recommend seeing San blas. Even if you ship the bike and just get on one of those sail boats sitting in the port. it is truly amazing experience you'll love it! See if captain yoyo is in the port he's awesome! Pm if you have any questions I'll do my best to help you guys out! But really don't worry to much about it theres tones of people doing this! P.s. if your scared about the idea of giving some guy your keys to your bike or car with the roro and opt to go for the shipping can. They don't actually let you lock it or see them even put your bike in the container and they also take your keys. So basically it's the same! |

I went with Airpackcargo $1200 U.S. Hardly no hassle or paperwork. They guide you in Panama City and Bogota Colombia. $120 to fly myself. Highly recommended a sail out to San Blas islands for 1 night. |

$1200 U.S. Minimal paperwork flying it over. Panama City to Bogota Colombia. $120 to fly myself over. They guide you on both sides every step of the way. Colombia side is alot more professional. Took 2 days. Short notice okay. Cheers! |

1 day and short notice no problems. Less paperwork. |
Van to Panama
Hope you guys are making it ok.
