Valparaíso - Valparaíso - Nov. 2019 - Jan. 2020

Hello everyone,

my name is Rolf, I'm from Germany and at the time of the trip I'll be 39 years old.
On previous trips, I've taken a Yamaha 660 Tenere to the Pamir Highway, Mongolia, Iran, aso.
I'd consider myself as a medium advanced offroad rider and this time I'll take a Suzuki DRZ 400 with a little lighter luggage, for more fun off road.

The trip will start beginning of November 2019 and take 3 months.
My plan is to camp not more than 3 nights in a row, take medium-cheap hostels and experience the local nightlife occasionally.

In terms of riding, I'm planning to stay off the main roads as much as possible/reasonable, find challenging tracks here and there and take a day for sightseeing or relaxing when I feel like it.
Usually I used to do ~1000-1500km per week, with exceptions.

I'd like to see lake Titicaca, maybe Machu Picchu, or some other ruins, as the northernmost point and Moreno glacier as the southernmost point. Maybe Ushuaia, depending on time and how much I'll be annoyed by the wind.

I'll be travelling alone, but definetely wouldn't mind company, either for some parts of the trip, or even the whole time, if our plans and ideas match.
Especially the very challenging and very remote parts I'll probably think twice, before I try them on my own, like riding on 5.000+m on a volcano or trying to reach O'Higgins via "Paso Rio Mayer".

Also I'm open for recommendations regarding route, climate or anything else.

Safe ride everyone,
Rolf

Hi Rolf
I am also planning on going to South America in November, but not got any concrete plans as yet. However, what you have planned sounds pretty interesting and similar to what I woukd like to do
Are you shipping your bike to Valparaiso or buying one there?

Mr_Wulf 14 Jan 2019 13:09

Hi Jon,
I'll ship my bike, most likely with intime-ham.
Since I live in Hamburg, it's the most comfortable way and I'm sure to have exactly the bike I want.

Little update: I booked the shipping for the bike. Intime-ham offers a special price for small enduro bikes and an early booking discount. I'm not advertising for them, I just think it's quite a good deal and might be interesting for others.

Not too much progress on the route planning... I still haven't decided if I want to increase my average distance per day and try to see everything in one trip, or save patagonia for another time and see more of Peru, Bolivia and northern Chile...

I am going to fly the bike to Buenos Aires and back. I will be arriving in BA early January, and heading for Santa Catalina and Ruta 40 pretty much straight away. Hoping to get to Punta Arenas by the end of January, then into Chile and along the Carreterra Austral for a while before heading back across central Argentina to BA by the end of February. Obviously, all that is just a broad plan, and subject to change and general randomness. If I can make it to Ushaia I will, but not at the expense of missing a bit of Chile.

Let's stay in touch, maybe see each other on the road!

Hi Rolf,

After finishing Europe and Asia, I am in Santiago with my Motorcycle and planning to go Ushuaia then upwards to Colombia.

I am from Berlin. And riding around the world since April 2019. At the moment I am recovering and fixing my bike in Santiago.
I would love to cover some areas and passes if it works out.

Best,
Willi
