Hi canoe guy, good to hear from you. So it looks like your a seasoned traveler. Hows Norway, i bet its great. I know 3 months may be a little shy but its just a guide i was given, but with all things like this theres always hold ups, so it's totaly flexable. It would be good to have you along for the ride, the more the better.

I live near luton so not to far away from you. Can't mail you directly as my computers playing up so i have to use the libary one for now. I'm easy for routes there, i have looked at a couple and the only concerns i have on the trip is iran and pakistan in terms of saftey with the way things are in the world at the moment. What do you think.
I also understand you have to fly from either india or nepal to get past burma as no foreigners are allowed to ride through the place. must be hiding something eh.
where abouts in oz do you live. I'm heading to mandurah south of perth. apparently the weathers good that side.

Hi guys, I'm also in the process of planning a trip to ride home to oz. It will be myself and my wife riding 2 up. We're not sure of dates yet but probably won't be until late 2006 at earliest depending on cash, weather etc. I'm also in London and would keen to have a chat and compare route, plans and all.
Click on icon above for details.
Good travelling.

Hi,
I'm also looking at heading out East for the tail end of 2006 (maybe early 2007 depending on weather etc.) I'm looking at going down to Turkey then across Iran and Pakistain, nip up to Nepal and then down to India to either get a boat across or fly over to Phuket. It would be good to chat about your plans and ideas for the trip.

Cheers

Daryn

Am planning on doing that trip (or as much of it as I can afford!) leaving January but taking a lot longer than you are planning. From your timing maybe I'll see you on the road in Turkey or Iran. Put another post up just before you leave, I'm sure I'll be glad of some company if our paths join for a while.

DOES ANY ONE KNOW A PLUS MINUS HOW MANY MILES IT IIS FROM LONDON TO OZ AND IS IT DO ABEL IN THREE MONTHS

Bigtrip05 20 Aug 2005 14:07

Hi to all
Myself and wife are currently in Quetta having just left Iran two days ago if you have any questions feel free to drop us a line.
To answer a couple of questions briefly , as far as budget goes, if you use the Lonely Planet Istanbul to Katmandu guide to plan and budget then you need a bigger budget things in Iran for instance were roughly three times more expensive than quoted to give you an idea. Also petrol more expensive 800 rials a liter( still thats only about US 10 cents!) Turkey though the fuel was 2.61YTL a litre which is about AU$ 2.65! A big surprise to us and our budget.
As far as Km's, we have currently done close to 16,000 since having left London, going via Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Iran and know in Pakistan. it could easily be lots more as we've stuck to a pretty direct sort of route.
Hope any of this helps

Steve and Nellie

allen starkey 21 Aug 2005 16:49

sorry it's taken so long to reply to everybody, i'm having problems getting on the net. Ill try and answer everyones questions in one go.
This is whats going on with the trip as it stands. At the moment there are 4 po 5 people coming on the trip, some of us met up last week for the first time to say hi and to talk about routes, dates and costs and other stuff and it went well. The route we've come up with which lucky enough everybody wanted in the first place was not to got the iran pakistan route, but to have a go at the good stuff, Kazakstan, mongolia and china round burma and hit the nearst beach for a bit of r+r. Cant realy give a distance for the trip because we need to sort out what poeple want to see and do on the way which could change the distance alot.
We all agree that £5000 should cover the cost of the trip which should be more than enough money. everyone on the trip is at different level of skill and since a large portion of the ride is going to be across the ruff, we're going on a course in wales that will teach the less experienced riders how to ride cross country and to give them the confidence with a heavy bike, it also lets us see who the slower riders are as you can only go as fast as your slowest man.
All of us so far will be using bike to bike communications, gps and some of us are taking helmet cams, oh and a laptop for the evening movie.
Anyone is welcome on the trip, the more people the more fun it will be, and it does'nt matter about your ability because we should have that sorted before we go.
You may be better contacting by phone for the minute, so you can get me on 07952 805569.
If anyone is going to the HU meeting in portugal in september and fancies coming along then come and have a chat, i should get the on friday night
Al

Hi

Had put a post up seeing who's going to Oz this year and have been pointed in the direction of this thread.

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb...ML/001152.html

What is everyone's current plans as this thread seems to have been quiet for a while. As I put in my original post, I'm pretty flexible timewise but probably looking to head off not much earlier than July '06, paperwork permitting!

Also what's the general concensus on going via Iran/Pak etc?

Cheers

allen starkey 6 Mar 2006 15:11

hi, just a few lines to tell people how the planning is getting on. the story so far is, it is alot more expensive than first thought!!
there are three of us going. we leave on the 15th april via kazakhstan, mongolia, china, loas and down to oz. bike are almost done, well two are, i'm still waiting for a clutch this week. the prep for the bike has been: engine out and stripped, replaced 3,4,5 gears, new oil pump, piston and piston rings, bore haoned, complete gasket set. now i know what tools i need for any job and that the engine is sound. removed all tape from the harness to inspect for likely problems and re-routed through some plastic tubing for protection. wheel bearings out, cleaned, re greased and new oil seals, loosened up the brake and clutch leavers so the move when the bike is dropped.motor cross inner tubes as they are more puncture resistant. oiled and lubed just about everything.
costs so far before we set off between 3/4 grand.
carnet,visa's and injections 1500 pound.
bike 1000
bike comms, clothing, tents, sleeping bags and other bits about 600 pounds, most on half price sale at the bike show at the nec.
panniers built by hand 170 pounds making the frames on the weekend.
we have started a bloc and will be activating it shortly with more info and photo's.
hope this helps anybody out.

allen
