Thailand - Myanmar - India March 2018

G'day

I am looking to cross by motorcycle from the Malay/Thai border to the Myanmar/India border around mid march 2018. My plan would be to get through Thailand in 4days and through Myanmar in 8days.

I have preliminary quotes from around US$2000.00 based on 3 people travelling to include guides, hotels and permissions.

I am a little flexible with the departure date and also the itinerary.

Anyone keen to hook up and keep the pricing down ?

Get in touch and let me know.
Cheers
David

Thailand - Myanmar - India March 2018

DobDevo: Hello. Thank you very much for initiating this thread and sharing your quote for the cost of the crossing. I may be interested in joining you and others for a Thailand->Myanmar->India crossing during March of 2018. Is three the limit per guide at this price?

DobDevo/Aditya Raj Kapoor: Are either of you planning to travel in Australia or New Zealand prior to reaching Thailand? Tentatively, my high-level schedule is:

Nov-Dec: New Zealand (Flexible: 1 or 2 months, as early as mid-Oct)
Jan-Feb: Australia (Flexible: 2 or 3 months)
Mar-?: Malaysia\Thailand (Flexible: 1 or 2 months)
April-?: India

Ideally, I would prefer to have more time in Australia and SE Asia. However, if I can secure a slot for a tour crossing Myanmar, I do not mind compressing my schedule. I can start my New Zealand tour as early as Oct 18th to acquire more time elsewhere. (I'll need to ensure a quick Australia to Thailand connection.)

Btw, I have read a little about India and would like to share the following: (Off topic, but related)

Recommended months to travel: (7 potential nice months)
(Oct-May) In general overall regions
(Oct-Mar) Peninsular India
(Apr-Jun) Higher elevations/hills; lovely at this time
(Dec-Feb) West Bengal state: entry point

Recommended months not to travel:
(Ap-Jun) Very hot and dry for most of India; humid along the coasts
(Jun-Sep?) Heavy rains in northeastern regions; wettest regions in the world

Thanks again for initiating this thread. I'll contact you via PM to learn more.

Hi....I will start my RTW in two weeks from Vladivostok and ride westwards. I should be in Indonesia in the first week of the next year. Then inch my way to India. That's the plan.

Hi Aditya

Thats good to hear that the dates mentioned will suit you. When will you be in a position to commit to a date and make a booking for this crossing ?

Let me know
Cheers
David

This is too early for me to commit a real date, but I estimate that I should be able to stick to the plan. More fine tuning before the year is over for sure. Maybe we will meet somewhere.

Hello Bad Lever11

Sounds good. How long are you considering in Thailand /Myanmar ?

My plan is to spend as little time as possible (3days) transiting Thailand and then 7-8 days travelling through Myanmar. Does this suit you ?

If so I will arrange for some quotes from the different tour operators.

I would imagine once a booking is in place it will become easier to get other people on board and reduce the overall cost.

Let me know
Cheers
David

Hi David (Dobdevo),
Sorry to be so late in my reply but we are still interested in joining a group to cross Thailand and Myanmar around those dates (mid-March) and happy to have minimum time in Thailand.
Have you arranged any quotes at this stage? We are 2 up, 1 bike.
Cheers, David (bad.lever).

Heya Dave,

We (2 Perth boys on motorbikes) have similar plans, starting from Malay/Thai border going to Myanmar/India border.

We're looking at mid to late february, but have not booked anything yet!

Lets keep in touch and see whether we can get a group together.

Cheers

Why wasting so much money to ship exotic bikes around the globe? Local bikes in Asia can be rented for 4 Dollars per day. Hotels are not more expensive too not talking about using public transport...

Hello Aubine, Helene

We are currently at 5 persons which is the maximum group size permitted before another guide is required. This would involve extra costs for all members of our group. At this stage I cannot invite you along but should the situation change I will let you know.

Enjoy your travels and good luck.
Regards
David
