Thailand - Korea - Russia - Mongolia - Europe
 

Hi, I'm hoping to find a way out of Thailand on an Africa Twin.
The way things look now, it'll be a flight to Korea and a Ferry to Russia. Then overland to Mongolia - Kazakhstan - Urkraine and further on to Europe.

Anyone riding the same way?

Hope to be in Korea by July

do you ride a German registered bike? Will be difficult to get into Korea with your bike in that case, see http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...t=Korea+German and other threads

in the meantime, Koreon Air said they don't carry dangerous good.
Anyway, my bike is on a boat to Japan right now.

Thailand - South Korea
 

Hi Michael,

So I guess you did not go to South Korea in the end? Im thinking about shipping my bike from Thailand, or somwhere from SE asia to S-Korea and do same route as you had planed.

Wondering has anybody experience shipping to S-Korea from Thailand?

Will not have carnet so cant do Japan:(

what are you up to? What's your timeframe? What are your goals?

Difficulties in terms of the bike in Korea are nearly the same as in Japan. ...Some kind of conventions which likely won't be enforced. Additionaly, it's not allowed to use bikes on any highway, which makes the airport a very interesting place to leave since no other roads are available.

Japan was surprisingly easy with my Carnet. ..Right, you don't have one..
I just loved Japan. What a great country which is definatly worth visiting.

Some friends of mine took another route which you may like aswell:
They flew the bikes over from Ulaan Baator to Bangkok (I can find out which company they used), crossed the chinese border, bought some 125cc bikes for 400US$ and rode all the way to the other side without any kind of escort or hassle.
Maybe this could be an alternative.

Korea Air doesnt do it, but last year I flew my XR250 from Cambodia to Korea using Thai Airways.

They want it created with no battery, fuel or oil. At the air port they check these things. ( i took a gamble and left my battery in - it paid off!)

I flew my bike into Thailand Airport, its so offical there... you have to make sure you have everything done correctly... hence why i sent from Cambodia.

How are things going? Do you still plan on being in Korea in July? I plan to be there sometime in July heading to Vladivostok and to follow the Trans Siberian Highway west. Maybe we could ride part way together?
