Hello,

I'm planning to quit Montreal in september. As you I would like to cross the Darien Gap with the Stahlratte.

It could be nice to travel with until Panama and maybe to Lima where I'll meet my wife for three months to go to Tierra Del Fuego.

Usually I'm more a lonely guy but it could be nice to have buddy to cross central america.....

Heading to Santiago

Ruben,

I'll be departing San Antonio on the 9th of September heading to Santiago. It looks like our routing is very similar. I'm linking up with a friend in Cartagena on 1 October, so I'm a bit rushed getting through Mexico and Central America.

I'd like to compare notes with you if you're interested. I've been debating on whether to ship by air out of Panama or by surface vessel.

Email mikemansell@charter.net or 828-261-6094.

DRRambler 7 Aug 2013 05:49

looks like there will be a bunch of us travelling around the same time. I'll be in Guatemala October 10 and on the Nov 15 sailing of Stahlratte.

I'm looking forward to meeting some of you :mchappy:

May spend a week in Costa Rica in a language school and am thinking of taking the Stahlratte on Oct. 25. My plan is to be in Ushuaia by Christmas. hope to meet up with you at some point.

Greetings, I will follow your progress with great interest as I plan to ship my V-Strom to Punta Arenas, Chile in January 2014 and ride it back to Virginia. I am particularly interested in your planning for Mexico and Central America. Also What are your plans for the section in Panama where there are no roads? How do you plan to organize transportation?

Container sharing

Looks like a lot of travellers, a lot of bookings on the stahlratte...

Anyone interested in sharing a container? With enough takers it could be cheaper. Flexible on dates. Ideally I'd be in Colombia by mid November at the latest.

In Guatemala now, loving it, feel free to ask me any info as my friends and family here have taken great pride over the past few months showing me around the best of the best.

Currently in Leon Nicaragua

I have been working my way down from Texas towards Panama for the Oct. 25th sailing of the Stahlrat. Rushed through Mexico due to security problems in the country and a scare in Veracruz.
Spent a week in Guatemala visiting Panahachel, Antigua and a side trip to the Copan ruins in Honduras. Guatemala is beautiful and people are friendly. I left Guatemala on on Sept.29th and am currently in Leon Nicaragua. I will be heading down to Granada tomorrow and after two or three days head down to San Juan del Sur. with this pace, I should be able to spend a week in Costa Rica and a week in Panama.
Hope to meet you all in Carti on the 24th.

Ruben

NomadicOne 7 Oct 2013 04:59

Hey Ruben,

Sorry to hear about your difficulties in Mexico. We had no issues except for being stopped and questioned by Narcos for 5 mins in Michoacan.

I'm planning on flying the bike from Panama to Medellin on Oct 14. I'll then spend 2-2.5 weeks in Colombia (Cartagena, Barranquila, Bogota) before continuing into Ecuador and south ultimately to Ushuaia and back up to BA/Uruguay. Let me know what your schedule/itin in Colombia is and hopefully we can meet up and ride together.

Anyone else who's schedule might be similar to mine, feel free to PM me.
