Sweden to Cape Town
 

Hi,
My girl and I are en-route to Cape Town in our Defender 110.

We are currently in Egypt, due to make our way in to Sudan. We will then slowly head south through Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and eventually South Africa. We expect to reach Cape Town in May 2009.

Would be great to meet up with travelers along the way. Let us know if you plan on being "in the neighborhood".

You're a long way ahead of us but we might catch up with you towards the end of your trip. We're leaving the UK, following roughly the same route as you and planning to arrive in Cape Town in March 09.

We are currently in Aswan and will tomorrow get on the ferry to Wadi Halfa. Two days ago we met a Brazilian couple (Mundo por Terra) who we will team up with through Sudan. They've got a really nice ride... check it out.

It's rather warm at the moment, 47 celsius / 117 Fahrenheit, but it's actually no problem at all, we just have to drink a lot. Met a guy today who arrived from Sudan last week. He said temperatures of around 55C / 131F are to expect in Sudan... and back home in Sweden it's front page news that the temperature has reached as high as 30C / 86F. =)

N[]va, thanks a million! It's always great to have someone showing you around once in a while. I only have three things on my "to do-list" upon reaching CT: shark diving, whale watching and have an ice cold rum and coke. Fill the rest of the list as you please.

Since I cannot send PMs yet, I might just as well answer Lucie's questions here. We didn't spend more than four nights in Libya, as that's what it took to cross from Tunisia to Egypt. This is not enough time if you want to see, well, anything. For this we had to pay a staggering amount of 670 euro per person. Insane. We looked around, but it was all rather expensive. We had a good impression of Jannat and thought it'd be better to go with them with confidence than to take one of the cheaper operators and risk being disappointed.

The price does however include everything except our meals and the fuel... both of which are really cheap.

Make sure that your passport translation is stamped in the passport, and not on a separate page or there might be problems at the border.

We are now in Sudan. After 4 nights in the desert it was rather nice to arrive to Khartoum and a shower. It's dust everywhere! Make sure to seal your car as much as you can!
