Summer trip to Mexico?
I am hoping to head down into Mexico for my first ride out of the USA. This will be a ride of about 2 weeks duration. Has anyone riden down in summer? Suggestions for itenerary. I am thinking about riding down Baja, ferrying to mainland, and heading up into the mountains where it will be a little cooler. I will be riding a BMW R1150GS, and don't mind dirt. Anyone else crazy and heading south in July? My wife would be happier if I find others riding the same direction.
hasta la vista, Dave |
Hi Dave,
I am planning on crossing into Mexico at either Douglas AZ or Nogales around the 25? of June. That seems to be a little earlier than you wanted and in the opposite direction but..... you could do the mountain bit first then follow up with Baja. Just a thought. Anyway, I am on a f650 and heading down from AK so my dates are approximate. If you are interested in sharing the ride through the mountains, email me. Ciao, Susan |
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I am not sure if I will be able to leave until the first of July or not. I have to get my family duties done before taking off..lol. I will keep in touch and tell you what the schedule turns out to be. Enjoy the ride south from Homer. Are you riding down the Casiar or the Alcan? Watch out for wildlife...it seems like everything in the Zoo ran in front of my van when I drove up there a few summers ago. Moose, Elk, Lynx, Deer, Bears, Mountain Goats, Mountain sheep, Even a damn porkupine. Ride safe, Dave Quote:

Hey Dave,
Well, it was worth the try. I am sure you'll run into someone either on this website or while riding. I rode the Cassier up a few years back and may ride it again down if my BC buddies are home in Kitimat when I come through ( Are you listening David and Rick??? I will email you guys) It does shave 100 miles off the trip if I remember correctly and I do think there are fewer RV's. But it's been years since I've been on the AlCan so...... who knows. 100 miles is 100 miles. Anyway, yes the animals are pretty active as you say. Just one more thrill to motorbike travelling. Buen Suerte! Susan |
