Southern California

Hi
I am looking to find a few weekend warriors to explore California. I am new to adventure touring and as much fun as I have alone http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...s/beerchug.gif I would love to find someone who enjoys it as much as I do. I usually go on at least 2 trips a month from Thursday to Late Sunday early Monday. I am easy going and would love to share my knowledge of Southern California and talk motorcycles with like minded individuals.http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...unmeteryes.gif Thanks for reading, Coby http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...es/scooter.gif My goal this year is to explore Alaska from May 28 - July 15 :) |
Not sure its the same type of ridding you're talking about, but I plan to do some duel sport type exploring in the Death Valley area soon after the holidays.Problem for me is, I'm in Norcal and it can be difficult arranging with others to make the 8 or 9 hrs south to ride.I'm also looking at other places in the sunny south, like the Mojave Road or possibly down into Baja for a few days.

I do not have any particular type of riding in mind, I guess you could say exploring while riding is what I have in mind. I want to see as much of the world as I can even if it has to be in 3 or 4 day increments :) . Probably the only type of off road that would be the least appealing is sand as the Yamaha Super Tenere is fairly heavy, there fore it is not the best sand machine.

Hi Motocrat what kind of bike do you have? What type of riding is there in Baja? How many days would you take down through Baja from NorCal?

If you are up to it, check out my planned ride.
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...a-2013-a-66060 Plenty of exploration for the wandering adventurer rider. Besides that, I do have a couple 2 days loops planned this spring before the desert heats up. Company is always welcome |
I've never enjoyed the sand but it's impossible to avoid in some areas.I spent the week of thanksgiving in Death Valley with my GF , riding on the jeep trails checking out some of the old mines and remote BLM cabins.I usually try to avoid alot of pavement with the drz, but have ridden a multi day trip recently on mostly pavement and wasn't as bad as I anticipated with the close range 5 sp.
I've yet to ride in Baja, but from what I've seen, just roads, some paved and alot that aren't. |

I put together this route that takes you from Los Angeles to Tecate MX and back. I do not know why it did not put the loop together from Palm Desert through Joshua Tree National Park but that is where the route should go. There is quite a bit of off road through these areas but the route has 0 off road. There seems to be some off road routes we could possibly take, if weather permitting and accessible as we ride through those areas.
Feedback please |
I've found that I have very flexible work schedule this winter and was hopping to break away for a trip or two, to a warmer, drier place than the north coast will be for the next few months. My plan was to head south(bike in truck) some time after the holidays and do a bit of riding in desert, ideally to base somewhere in near DV or Mojave Preserve and ride a leisurely 2-3 day loop exploring along the way.Not exactly big bike, 300+ miles a day kind thing. That said, I am fairly flexible, possible to meet up and ride for a section or so?Most of socal is completely unfamiliar to me.I'll try and take closer look at the area.
