South of Spain in December

Hi there!
I'm planning an trip to the South of Spain, starting around December 20th from the Netherlands (or Belgium) untill mid-January.

It would be great to connect with others who are planning the same or a similar trip (even if it's just part of the route)! Let’s share ideas, route suggestions or maybe even some kilometers

I hope you have a good trip! Remember that between where you are and the South of Spain there are some properly tall mountains, and with altitude December will be very very cold (the Pyrenees got their first proper snow of the year about 2 weeks ago) so pack accordingly

Thank you! Good point I've done this trip before, and this time I’m planning to stick more to the coastal areas (like Barcelona, Valencia, etc.). The temperatures feel fine to me, especially since I’m used to colder weather in the Netherlands ;-)! But if someone has suggestions for another route or destination that fits in this timeframe, I am looking forward to hear!

Btw: does anyone know the current highway conditions around Valencia after the floods?

I was at our cave in Granada province during the Dana storm and experienced what I considered an unbelievable 110mm of water in eighteen hours, until finding out that one village near Valencia had almost five times that amount.

The worst affected area was to the south and south west of Valencia but almost all the roads are now open. Check current status at https://infocar.dgt.es/etraffic/

Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe after Switzerland. I used to ride through central Spain each January to get to Morocco to follow the Dakar Rally. On one trip, six of us had electrically-heated jackets, one didn't, and he messaged his wife to get her to post one to a hotel in Algeciras for the return trip.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
