South To Argentina Then North To Brazil

I will be leaving Kansas City the beginning of November and heading south with my final destination being Brazil. I really enjoy dining out and look forward to enjoying local food and drink. Schedule not set in stone no exact arrival date. Anyone looking to ride along either partial or in full just let me know. For this trip I have purchased a KLR650 which I plan on leaving in Brazil with relatives. I also am fluent in portugese and have been traveling to Brazil for over ten years (mostly southern Brazil).

South America for 4 months

I am planning on also going to northern part of South America with Brazil and Argentina the main focus. Planning on leaving mid Oct to Nov. I have done this trip 2 years ago (well only to Panama and back to Northern California). I am taking my same bike which is a Honda xl500s and plan on selling it or just giving it away after the 4 months and using my frequent flyer miles to return to California.
Not planning on seeing too much of Central America just mostly getting to Panama and shipping to S.A. then like I said Northern S.A. I speak enough Spanish to by.
I am easy going and used to hassles of travel and get along with most people.
Sounds like your schedule is identical to mine !
My visa for Brazil is still good for 3 more years.

Hello all,

Looks like everyone on this thread has similar departures and destinations. I will be free to travel starting Oct 1, and plan to keep the compass pointed south for the next several months, TDF and back up to Brazil is the rough plan. Starting out from Colorado and will spend some time in UT,NM and AZ before crossing the border. Riding a tour ready KLR 650, 34 years young with 10+ years in the saddle, good mech skills and poor Spanish, which I hope to improve during the trip. Dboone, Glenn, Darango, and Zundapp, send me an email and contact info, it would be great to get a group of riders together.

I'm thinking Mazatlan but I'm easy going and we can figure something out. If two or three of us are ready to go someone tell me when and where in Mexico and I'll be there. dboone

I'm game!

Hola Boys,

I'm flying into Atlanta oct 6th - flying home from Sao Paolo on June 1st 2011!

Buying a bike in the US, spending a week or two getting it ready and then crossing the country, and heading south.

No fixed plans! I'd love to hook up with you along the way!

Not a giant budget, but still enough to get the Coronas after dark:-)

Camping, couchsurfing and cheap hostels!

25 years, from Denmark - good language and travel skills - but never on a motorbike.

Florida to TDF

:thumbup1: Hey Lads,
I'm picking up a KLR650 in Florida on the 10th of November and following the Gulf around down to Mexico, Central America and South America and you all seem to have similar travel plans, so it would be cool to meet up in Mexico. I'm an experienced rider and have been on a few trips so far but this one is the Biggie and I can't wait to hit the tar :scooter:
So if anyone is interested in meeting up with a slightly insane Irishman you can send me an email aaronwallace1000@gmail.com

Thanks for reading this post,
Aaron

Down South from San Francisco in the beginning of November

Hi fellas!

It seems that there are quite a few who have had the same amazing idea of traveling down south here. My plans would be similar, but I'm a bit late compared to your schedule. Will arrive to San Francisco in the beginning of November and try to arrange a bike from there (buy or rent for two months). Tour the West side for some time prior entering the Mexico. I'll have one year off from work, so no fixed plans, other than keep on going South until the land ends or get bored. :)

So if you're running a bit late (now my plan is to go over to Mexico around January), I would like to share a road for a while with a similar minded traveller. I'm 28 year old fellow from Finland, lots of kilometers in Europe and some in Thailand, now hoping to "conquer" Americas by bike.

Zibou 7 Sep 2010 23:48

I'm French, fluent in spanish and english, living in mexico city.

I will start my journey from mexico city mid december and head south,
so far the plan is to cross central america as fast as possible
get a sail boat in panama to get to columbia and start taking some times.

draft plan.
Mexico Panama: 15-30 december
Columbia - Bolivia: January
Chile - Argentina: Febrary- mid march

So far, I plan on riding my KTM 950 adv.

I would be glad to meet some other riders on the road

I could sell the KTM in Buenos Aires in March if someone is interested or send it back to Mexico

Can look for me in msn or here to keep in touch

markharf 8 Sep 2010 03:52

Zibou, you didn't ask but I'll suggest anyway that you think about the availability of sailboats in late December. In other words, there might not be any. This would require flying....or possibly trying a freighter, with all the uncertainties that would involve.

Hope that helps.

Mark

Look out for me

Hey,

I know a lot of you are riding from North America and down. Just wanted to say keep your eye out for a humorous English fellow on some small (under 400cc) cheap south american machine.

Leaving Mid Nov from Santiago chile, then going Ushuaia, upto BA, icuaza falls, bolivia, peru and then further north. Duration around 6months. If anyone else is on a similar route would be great to meet up!

email is eddiekp@hotmail.com

Cheers,
Edd.

Other way around

I expect we will be passing a lot of you as we are going the other way....

We start December 2010 in Buenos Aires down to the HU meet in Viedma then Ushuaia for Christmas, up the west coast, sailboat to Panama, up to LA, Route 66 to New York for end of March.

It would be great to meet with anyone on route, you won't miss us, we will be like Tweedle dee and Tweedle dum, both on red GSA's both in twat suits.

See you somewhere

bilgeewarrior 9 Sep 2010 16:11

I'm leaving Vancouver BC Canada around mid October headed south slowly to Panama. Maybe will see you all on the road?

Glennn1234 9 Sep 2010 16:39

sailboat from Panama ?

I am leaving N. California in Mid Oct. plan on being in Panama in 2 weeks (plus or minus). Not set up to travel with anybody as of yet !

What is this about not being able to find sailboat in latter part of Dec. !
You think because of Christmas or what ?
I am thinking 500+ US dollars per bike and perhaps a week or so finding a captain who makes his living doing this would not be too hard to find at this time........
Anyone have solid info about this ?

E-mail me at onleeemeee@yahoo if anybody is ready to commit to mid Oct departure date (mid Oct to first week Nov )

Glenn

Recommendation

Hey All,

I just returned from a 6,000 km RT of all of Peru and can recommend a MUCH BETTER route than following the PANAM all the way thru Peru and getting snagged every 10 km by the corrupt police north of Lima. Turn east at the Santa River (at the town of Santa a few miles north of Chimbote) and go thru the Canyon del Pato to Huaraz, then over the top to Huanuco and all the way to Cuzco. I have done it twice:

My friend Rob just passed thru the first part of that route on a GS. Here is his blog:

The Big Adventure ... six months, four continents, two motorcycles: Day 49 - Trujillo to Huaráz, Peru

I have some great recommendations for Brazil from my 2007:

Glad to help. I too am a dirt biker at heart riding an XR650...
