Selling a Canadian registered Bike in the USA??

I am a Canadian returning from mexico, currently on my VFR800 which is registered to me and fully insured with current plates.
I am selling the bike in the USA, in order to carry on traveling on a sailboat.
Does anyone have advice on this procedure?
Do I enter the USA first then return to the border and ask for the forms, or just ask when returning?
What's the least expensive way to sell my bike with the least amount of Hassel for the buyer?
Any info really appreciated, thank you.

I copied and pasted your thread title into Google. Answer took .14 seconds. Basically, there are hoops. I'll just leave it to you to do exactly what I did...or wait for someone more generous to respond.

Yes, that's just it, it's constantly changing. Some people do it with ease, apperantly. Others get tied up at the border for 3 days, so can't seem to get a straight forward answer online.
So it's a 2006, has anyone recently sold a Canadian registered motorcycle in the USA?
Do I tell the border I am planning to sell it, or wait for the buyer and then return to the border?? That's what I need to know.

Trust government sites, not forums, blogs, and answers like mine. Seriously.

The instructions are clear, and not contradictory: you have to import the bike, which you may do at the border as you enter or not. It's not old enough to import as an antique, so subject to all regulations.

Or: do as lots of people do, and just blunder along, trusting what someone like me tells you to do. It'll all work out in the end, as it did for the people who did it with ease, the people who got held up for 3 days, and lots more. But recognize that you'll probably wish you'd just trusted what the government says.

Try websites that end in ".gov," not ".com/forums or .com/blog. Second best: state government sites.

Hope that's helpful, and good luck. Personally, I'd ride the extra ~1500 miles and sell it in Canada for a better price.

Well maybe my expectations were a little to high! I was hoping that only people that have done it would reply, lol. Because I would really only listen to someone who has done it and knows, right, it never hurts to ask, and I am sure someone has done it and "knows better for next time"
Hopefully.. in the meantime I will be going through the slow process of reading the gov guidelines.. EPA guideline, dot guidelines..
