I am still looking for someone to ride with from Vladivostock heading West. Any volunteers?

I would be interested in hearing more of your plans for an East to West Russia trip. Will you be shipping a bike to Vlad, are you going via Korea ferry route? Where will you ship from/ start from?

I don't want to hijack this thread-- suffice it to say I am very interested in your plans and the possibility of joining , unemployed and broke, what else should I do? If possible, shoot me an email at

What are you riding? Whats your time frame? bush camp, or bed guy?

Me-- Old but sound and proven DR650, As long as the cash goes, maybe a year, bush camp-

Cheers,
SK

West to east and back west again...

Hi SK,
We're going west to east...not east to west.
Leave UK 6th May with Mick and Colleen Tharme from Oz.
Belgium, Germany and then Eastern Europe (where we meet up with Jens from Southern Germany), Russia, Kaz as far as Almaty where M+C head north to Novosibirsk and back via Russia and The Baltics; Jens and I do Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan together when Jens heads off north to Valdivostok and Japan. I do Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and back across Turkey.
Bikes are two BM gs's and an Africa twin.
All have different time scales - Micks the shortest - back by end July, me 3-4 months, Jens a lot longer!!
Camp where we can.
Don't know if this is of any use?
Cheers
Paul

SK, Paul,

Yes I will be shipping a bike to Vlad. Probably to Korea from Seattle, Washington using a company called STS. From Korea there is a ferry to Vlad.
My trip will start on the east coast of the USA, Boston, and end there.
I was hoping to be in Vlad sometime in June/July and take about a month to cross Russia.
I will be riding a Triumph T100. I would like to stay in low cost hotels and camp where necessary.

Paul,
Do you know if Jens is riding from Vlad to Moscow on his return?

Jens...

Hi Lance,
I'd better let Jens answer on his plans but in the "travellers seeking travellers" thread http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...feb-08-a-32401 - he mentions getting thee TSR on the return leg.
Cheers Lance

August is a little later than I had hoped but certainly possible.
When you say transib I assume that is the Trans Siberian Highway not the Trans Siberian Railroad? My hope is to remain on the Trans Siberian Highway most of the journey. If you are heading to Moskau (Moscow) we could certainly ride most of the route together before I head towards Ukraine. Do you have a date in August for your Vladivostok departure?

Lance

Hi Lance,

It`s too early to have a certain date to start from Vladivostok but I think, it will be August 15. or around this date..but I meant the railway, we will load the bikes on the railway to short the way back..

biker-regards Jens

Good luck and see you in July! :)

Hi,

I may very well be interested in joining in.

I had in mind a Europe-Turkey-Caucasus-Iran-Stans-China-Mongolia and back from mid may to end of august on a KLR, but the way is still fuzzy and as I go I encounter more administrative difficulties than I suspected, so I may very well be interested joining you, provided I get a Russian visa in time.

Do you have more details (dates and all) about your way?

michaeltharme 28 Mar 2008 22:37

G'day mate
I'll be catching the Speedferry at 1800hrs on 6 May from Dover to Boulogne and spending the night before heading towards Liege to meet PaulM and Jens.
You're welcome to join us.
Send me an email and we can talk. michaeltharme@msn.com

Cheers
Mick

I'd love to hear how things go with you guys. I was hoping to ride to Kyrgystan (mid August onwards) for 2-3 months. So far can't seem to find anybody else interested.
