Hi Ed, After some recent exploits I have doubts about going alone on my 90. I rode John O'Groats to Lands End in 20hours 58 minutes on 15th/16th Dec '09 on the 90, so I'm up for the trip, just not sure about going it alone.
If you're still looking for someone to buddy up with, drop me a line. Cheers, Jim.

Yes I am still doing the trip on my c90, but I have now booked my tunnel and ferry tickets. Just to explain I am leaving on the 22nd of jan, and allowing 7 days to get there. Then on the Sunday of the rally I'll be riding down to Grenoble in the French Alps to go skiing with some friends for 5 days or so and then leaving on the 6th and then start my ride up to Cherbourg over 4 days and then home. If you want to meet up at any point if our times work then I'd be great to compare stories on how slow we are haha.
My trip is now 2500 miles but I've got 2 1/2 weeks to do it so it should be too bad :)
almost bought all of my kit now and got a nice arctic sleeping bag, as soon as my roll mat arrives i'm gonna start practicing how to strap it all down haha

c90's have been been going to the elefant for years, they usually make it there and back, and if there are any problems, they are the easiest bike to fix!!
tips,
Put a gallon of fuel in the shopping basket, this will give you a good range.
Only put the lightest stuff (eg sleeping bag) in the top box.
Carry a litre of spare engine oil, you never know if a ring will go. This also works as chain lube.
Extend the leg guards, and fit hand muffs.
Fit really bright led lights on the top box, fog is a real hazard.
Use trail type tyres, work well in all conditions, and i put 46 psi (3 bar) in the rear, punctures are not good in the cold, motox tyres only work well in deep snow.
If you have the ability, modify the rear brake to cable and clutch lever operation, icy roads are easy to go downhill on then.
Remove the heat spacer from the carb inlet, helps prevent icing, also a dangly rubber flap helps keep the carb warm.
Single seat conversions are great (with a sheepskin), means you dont have to remove the luggage to fill up.

After all that, bog standard c90's are more than capable of doing the job, but i'm a pervert.
