Rider in retirement looking for travel companion(s)

I am looking for travel companion(s) for one to three weeks long motorcycle trips. I do not have any specific routes planned yet, my preferences for the time being are Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic provinces, New Foundland, north eastern and north central US. I would love to venture to Central or South America, but I am rather realistic person and not sure if/how I could handle that. I presently live near Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.

I am 68, retired mining engineer and fairly experienced motorcyclist, riding from 1994. I have been clocking 15k kms per season on average and 25k kms in 2014, my first full year of retirement. I am now very flexible time wise, available pretty much all year, except May 19 to June 10, 2015 when I will be in Europe.
I do not envision any camping on my travels, so I would appreciate somebody who would be willing to share the room and the costs of accommodation (motels/hotels).

I prefer secondary roads with nice scenery, riding at a relaxed pace. I can go either on my BMW 1200RT if pavement only is involved or on my Suzuki DL650 if occasional gravel or hard packed road is to be encountered. However, paved roads are my preference and off road is out of question.

If interested, PM me and we can communicate over email or telephone.

Wish you well in your search. I'm the same. Retired, ride a bike, but travel Europe for about the same time. There's not that many of us about. Well not in the UK any way. It's a shame that we are so far apart.

John

Have a look at the cheap air shipping to Canada on offer for bikes at the moment and you may change your mind...

In my dreams. I have to make the penny's go as far as I can. So that stay with in where I can ride to, or the few cross ferry's as in RORO. Any way I'm committed to Spain and Portugal this year.

Hi Luma

Hi John and Luma:

Luma: I just re-read you post and think I might have gotten it wrong at first. I saw that you are going to be in Europe this summer, but am I correct in thinking you are not going to have your motorcycle there?

John: Like you, I am committed to going to Spain and Portugal this summer myself.

Luma and John, I am, like you, retired and living the fun life. I was a school teacher from southern Illinois for 40+ years, and I have a 650 VStrom which I keep in Germany. I go to Europe and ride during the summer months. My wife and I leave for Holland on May 6 to visit our daughter. My wife will fly back home around May 13, and I will head for Germany to get my motorcycle. My plans for this summer are to head down to Spain and Portugal and maybe on into Morocco if the weather is not too hot. I fly back home mid-August, so I am thinking I might head up into the Scandinavian countries in late July when the weather warms up. I plan to stay in hotels in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

I've posted on your other thread. As for a PS. I have a flat booked in Portugal if you want to share. Cost a dam lot less than hotel's.

Hola,

I am also a retired 68 year old and have been doing long distance trips since 2010....the latest the Gaspie Region and Chile and Argentina. Consider SA but fly to Chile and purchase a Chinese 200 cc Euromot....1863.00 US taxes in.....and sell at the end of trip.

Look up a Horizon Unlimited meeting near you as a resource for fellow travellers..........http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/events/ontario-2015

Check out this site 2 UK riders on Honda C90 crossing Canada in winter...met them last week....Wander On A Honda | Rachel's C90 Adventures – Life in the fun lane!.... why should young people have all the fun...LOL

Luma,
I'm heading to South America in October for 6 months. I'm in New Mexico and there are two others going along too. One from Alberta and another from El Paso. 6 months for me and maybe shorter for the others.

Hey John, Luma, and others.

Another retiree here doing lots of riding. I'm an American living in Panama and have ridden Ushuaia to the Arctic (KLR650). In two weeks I'm heading to Ireland to pick up a bike (2005 R1200RT) that I bought there and will spend the summer exploring Europe. Mostly interested in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia this year. I'll also be at the Horizons meeting in Germany in May.

I would love to meet up if we're in the same area, so keep in touch.

Where about's in B.C? I'm wondering if you're up to checking out the Horizons Unlimited meet in Nakusp in August 20-23, if so, we can chat up about heading south. I've spoken with Taos Traveller and a few others, all in all it will be a good information gathering weekend; a great place to get ideas, Robert.

Hello Luma46, This is DEMOES and planning a trip from Southern Western Ontario to Manus Brazil sometime in the fall of 2017 and would like company through Mexico / Central America. I was fantastis but would have been more relaxing if I had company. I am 62 and retired Mech. Eng with 40 years in the Nuclear Power industry. If interested give me a buzz 519-353-7179 or demoes@ bmts.com
