PNW to SOUTH AMERICA late 2018 (search4surf)

Hey guys,
My names James, I'm a 26 year old coastie looking to get out of the service in late 2018, and begin a trip from Oregon to South America. I'm going to stretch the adventure as long as the money will last (+1year). My goal is to see some amazing places down south, and search for some bitchen surf along the way; possibly stay for extended periods of time at certain locations(the better the surf, the longer I'd like to stay bier.) I'd like to save on living expenses and camp where ever possible.
I plan on purchasing a bike this winter and begin the process of outfitting her for the trip.
I'm in the mega early planning stages of the trip, but I'd like to find another stoked out individual to plan something rad.
If this sounds at all like something you'd be interested in, get in contact with me and we can get the ball rolling early on. Cheers bier

Epic Odyssey

Yo James!

My name is James also, I'm down here in LA, do you live in Oregon?

Im also planning an epic odyssey in 2018! I just thought it was too early to post, but now I see I'm not the only one. I'm starting in summer of 2018. But I want to start in Alaska and moto all the way down to Ushuaia Argentina. Then it will be off to a different continent. So for sure contact me if you're interested in a North pole to south pole odyssey! Cheers bier beer

Here is a cut and paste of my bio and half-ass quasi plan.................

Alaska to Argentina and beyond, summer 2018

The Bike: 800 GSA (I think, not completely sure this is the right pick)
The Route: Alaska to Argentina, then the rest of the world.
The Detailed route: head south (the plan is to have no plan)
Time Limit: TBD... 2 to 5 years? (the plan is to have no plan)

My name is James Bacon, I'm a 42 year old dude from Los Angeles, California. I'm an easy going, laid back guy who loves being outdoors and exploring new places. I have a passion for the ocean and pretty much every hobby it produces. (surfing, diving, fishing, sailing, etc) Traveling and being outdoors are my medication of choice.

I’ve been working at the same job for about 30 years, so now it’s time to get the hell out of here and head out into the unknown. Camping, Hostels and cheap hotels will be the majority of my accommodations, but an occasional nice hotel will sometimes be necessary to recharge my gringo batteries. :scooter:

In the past I bicycled from Igouzu, Brazil to Buenos Aires, Argentina I’ve also pedaled the west coast from Canada to Mexico, camping most of the time. I’m no nube to adventure, but for me, this upcoming adventure takes it to the next level.

Hell yeah, I live up in northern oregon right now. I grew up about an hour south of you in Dana Point.

My spectacular plan is to travel and blow my life savings on the longest trip I can manage. Then boogie on back home and jump on the GI bill and get a job and do it all over again!!

I went out on a limb and figured it was worth a shot to post this early. I recently thought of backtracking up north and hitting the pan highway till prudhoe, but right now my contract date interferes with any likely plans to head north. (I'm going to complete my contract late November 2018) I spent a year up in Kodiak, and drove from Homer to haines, Ak. So I wouldn't be too bummed if Alaska gets cut.

I'll dm you later with contact information but this will be the first real assent into a full blown travel adventure. I've grown up around older dirtbikes, and used to commute on a '70 TS90 to a local college, but I truly haven't traveled large stretches on one. Like i mentioned, I've driven a truck around alaska, and across the US, 2 times. I'm more of the "F*#& it, i'll get used to it" type guy. That's why i plan on getting a bike on the cheap very soon, and begin trail riding the thing.

And that's classic, I'm for sure that guy who goes on trips with no plans, but I wanted a little bit of a path I could follow down south and key countries I wanted to hit. Nothing much more.

I was looking into possibly volunteering along the way to settle down and break up the trip, but we'll just see how long that idea lasts.

I haven't spent a whole bunch of time thinking about my ride, but i was looking at either KLR, DR(leanin toward this guy). I'd hate to have it stolen, so that's why I'm staying on the cheap.

Anyways, ill get you my contact information and hopefully we can work something out, and pick up more stoked out people. Cheers
-james

I just tried to PM you, I'm new here, I guess we need 3 minimum posts here before it lets you PM for spam reasons.

Sweet, Dana Point! I spent my summers as a kid in Balboa, Newport Beach skimming and body surfing the wedge. I never got into surfing because Balboa was nothing but shore break. I sure would love to spend some nice time on a non crowded wave in some cheap little beach town somewhere. Have you looked into Mancora, Peru? It looks sick! Especially for the goofys. And of course, if we do this epic moto trip, we have to moto down Baja and stop off at every good break. :mchappy: :thumbup1: bier

James
