Pamir highway early summer 2022

Dear all
I plan to have a trip along the pamir highway in late spring, early summer 2022 with my motorbike and I would like to have someone to accompanie me. Sometimes a third hand or a second person are really helpfull in case if something unplanned happens - and unplanned things always happen :-)
I am born 1962, have 160.000 km of motorbike experiance, have studied 3 times and work as an IT-projectmanager for europeanwide rail-related IT-projects for the European commission.
I usually spent one month of my vacation on my motorbike (currently a BMW R 1250 GS Adventure) to visit regions where all-inclusive tourists never come to. I have visited until now 24 European countries but have never ridden a bike outside Europe. My equippment is overcomplete - if you need the one or the other part - chances are good that I can help. I will also have a sattelite telephone with me.

My trip will start and end in Bishkek - capital of Kirgistan. A transport company will transport my bike to Bishkek and back and I will arrive by plane. I would like to reach the region over land but unfortunately I do not have so much vacation. The whole trip will take one month (30 - 32 days). Generally I would like to ride south, cross into Tadschikistan, take the variant of the M41 along the Whakan corridor, reach Dushanbe (capital of Tadschikistan) and then it depends on how much time is left because if so we could also visit some famous silk road towns like Samarkand in Usbekistan. Overall: the precise route we plan to ride at the end will be discussed if we agree to ride together.

Comradship is important to me. The exact date is currently not fixed as I can be flexible and I can consider your wishes. I just have to know the exact starting date 2 - 3 months ahead.
This trip is a thing I have been dreaming about since I was a child.

The route you describe is part of the trip I'm planning for 2022 (postponed for 2020). A this time the covid/border situation is still uncertain, as is the security situation around Afghanistan. However, if possible my journey will start from the UK in late April, heading east as far as Magadan, then turning round and returning via Mongolia, the Pamirs and the Silk Road. Ferry across the Caspian then to Europe via Turkey and the Balkans. Total duration 5-6 months. I should be coming down through Kyrgyzstan mid August. The hottest time of the year of course! But at least it guarantees the mountain passes will be open.

That sounds awesome Tomkat, are you looking for other riders? Also wondering how much pandemic will impact travel. Guess a lot of that depends on what people do between now and then.

Just sat here on the computer, trying to sift through the visa and Covid requirements for the Stans, and Pakistan.

This is a trip I’m interested in so if for whatever reason you have to delay until 2023 let me know.

Caravanistan is your friend here. When I last looked Russia was the only one that couldn't be gained on the road or electronically, but bear in mind anything could change in the next 6 months.

Hi Atlan - have you ridden the Pamir yet?
I've been planning this retirement trip prior to Covid. Was planning June/July 2023 riding from the UK through Europe with a ferry across the Caspian sea. Got all my routes/ visa research etc done but came across the Uk gov site talking about armed conflicts at boarders between Uzbek/Tajik as well as the Tajik/Kryg. If you have done the trip, were the boarder crossings ok? I guess if you reply, the answer is yes, if not.....

Age 57 and loving my Triumph Scrambler 1200 ex.

At the time of writing Azerbaijan land and sea borders are closed to tourists, the Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border is closed due to conflict and Russia is imminently expected to announce a visa free scheme for tourists.

Like I said, anything could change. Plan your route accordingly and have a backup plan in reserve.
