Northern Russia, ALtai, Tuva, Kyrgyz

It’s that time of the year when it is p*ssing down with rain outside, shorts dark days and Xmas very far yet….

So, the perfect time to start planning a trip and cheer me up J

Still vague at this stage but my plan would be, late May early June, to ride across Scandinavia, get into Northern Russia (Murmansk peninsula) then down to Petrozavodsk and Kerala Oblast to visit few ancient sites, then Arkhangelsk oblast to the same named town. From there cross to the Komi republic, explore, visit and find a way to get to the edge of river Ob; maybe via Kotlas to Surgut or Nizhnevartovsk.

Then take a boat up the river to Tomsk. From there ride to Gorno-Altaysk to pick up our border permits.
Then ride the Altai and part of Tuva Track.
Then come back across the Altai and cross Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan. Explore a bit further Kyrgyz and if we have time ride some part of the Pamir highway in Tajikistan.

End the trip in Bishkek, put the bikes mid-September into Sambor’s trucks and flight back to Blighty.

Anyone will be round there next summer?

Hej Maria,

your route is part of my plan for next summer too.

The idea spinning in my head is to go Murmansk to Magadan,
Earliest start could be 1rst of june 2016. I have 3 month than.

I also look for a way to go a more northern route than the usual
Moscow-Kazan-Ufa-Omsk-Novosibirsk route and get as close to the
Baikal as possible.

From there I would like to try the Zimnik 100 to get on the Western BAM at Novy Uyan.

As the part starting at the Baikal is more important for me, I don`t want to spend more than 4 weeks getting to Tomsk. Also still looking for someone to team up for the 110, BAM and Kolyma. So more likely I will start the trip
in the Arkhangelsk oblast.

A friend of mine did a ride to Murmansk this year. There is a report on his
FB-site Zimi on the loose.

A russian friend helps me to get mor information about a possible route,
I will be happy to share any news. But we just started.

Best regards from Scandinavia

Uwe

Hi Uwe,

Regarding our itinerary, I have some suggestions as well from Walter Colebatch and some russian friends.

You may be ahead of us... unless we leave the UK sooner... depend on work really. Maybe see you in Arkangelsk :thumbup1:

My plan is to take about 4 to 6 weeks to get to Gorno-Altaysk (so around mid-july) before riding the Tuva track.
Then we still have plenty of time to get to Kyrgyz and Tajikistan.

Let's see who else is going that way next year. Usually quite a lot of people but they may take the southern route via Turkey and beyond....
