Nepal-China-Laos on mid October 2012 - Looking for travel partners to share costs

Hi,

We will be riding two up from Spain to Australia on a BMW.

Initial plan was flying from Katmandu to Bangkok around mid october, but if we find travel partners to share costs we would consider going through Tibet and China to Laos.

Aprox. date is mid October 2012.

Already have contacted two agencies but no travelers have contacted them for those dates.

Anybody interested in joining??

Jose

hi Jose,

I might be mixing up the posts here but are you thinking of doing the KKH north to south, crossing india to nepal, then riding back thru china to laos? If so, this is intriguing and I wonder how the timing for this would work out? we are also 2up heading east starting in May.

Hi Niello, yes my idea is try to join Fern and her group on the frontier Kyrgyzstan-China the first week of september, then do the KKH south, North India and Nepal so my timimg would be around October 15-25 in Katmandu, if I find a group and cost are more or less ok, would drive through China to Laos.

If I don´t find a group I will fly to Bangkok.

Would that work out for you?

Jose

Hi Jose,

We will be making a trip from Poland to Brasil on Tenere 600z bikes. Two mens, two bikes. We are planning to go from Iran, through Pakistan to India and then Nepal , China (Tibet) to Laos or Vietnam. We plan to arrive to India in the beggining od October this year. Haven't planned KKH before but I think that'a a must do :) I think we could arrange a route together.

Jose, sorry for quoting one post just after other but I think that would work out for us. We might change the intial plan which was Kazachstan - Turkmenistan - Iran into Kazakhstan - Uzbekistan - Kyrgyzstan to join you on the route from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan through KKH and than as I posted before India - China - Nepal - Laos (or Vietnam)

Let me know if that is suitable for you.

@Niello8 How about you ? Is that plan I wrote to Jose suitable for you also ?

Hi Jastrap,

For the trip from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan, I have seen you hace contacted with Fern, I think there woulb be no problem for you to join us.

As for the trip from Nepal - China - Laos, I have contacted with two agencies, I will send you the quotes on a private message, it would be great if Niello could join so we would be a group of 6.

We will keep in contact

Regards

Sounds great!

We'll keep in touch.

niello8 8 Mar 2012 14:33

So sorry I didnt reply before! Jose you have my email address, i would love if you would send me the quotes. We are debating whether to do something like this or stay for a while in india & nepal. That, and trying to avoid scheduling as much as possible...

Jose M. Garcia 8 Mar 2012 14:39

Please tell me your mails.

I will ask them for a quote if we were six ok us

Regards

Group numbers are growing, right now, we are six bikes with eight persons so it is very possible that around the third week of October we will ride from Nepal to Laos.

If anybody else is interested please tell me. bier

Jens2804 27 Mar 2012 14:20

We're planing to ride a similar route this year too. Originally we planned to head to Laos a little bit later but this sounds nice. Could you send me the quotes for two persons and two bikes.

Jens

Jose M. Garcia 28 Mar 2012 19:06

Hi Jens,

I will send you the aprox. quote on a private message

In a few days we will have to confirm the interested people for the exact quote.

Can you either post the approx costs or pm them to me I am planning a similar trip in October this year, but because of the high costs I am now considering flying from India to Bangkok. If the costs are within my meagre budget I will most certaintly join you on the China trip.
Keep upright Bill

Jose M. Garcia 2 Apr 2012 19:50

Hi Bill, did you get my message??

We are already 10 confirmed so if you are interested, you would be the last one in order not to be a group too big.

Regards

Jose

Hi,

I just arrived in India with my camper. looking for an alternative to ship the car to Pucket in beginning 2014, I found your post with the route over Nepal and Tibet witch I didn't know it was possible.

Could you please post more details about the different papers you need, agencies, budget, best dates to cross Tibet and in general some mistakes to avoid??

Thank you in advance.

Hi Furgonauta,

This China part was not possible because China closed the Tibet border.
So, due to this we needed to ship our bikes to BKK via air from Kathmandu.

If Tibet is close, the only option would be around Pakistan and KKH, is it?
Does anyone have new information or did it in the last time?

Thanks

Tibet may be possible now, it wasn't late last year. We did the 5 day china run from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan down the KKH. Check with various tour companies, there are quite a few. Just be prepared to reroute if necessary.
