Myanmar (Thailand->India) June 2016

Hi,

Myself and a friend are starting a RTW trip from Malaysia to London in March next year. We are taking 2 bikes (KLR650 + DR650), and trying to get off the main roads as much as possible. Our route takes us through Myanmar, and we are interested if anyone is passing that way around the same time to share guide costs.

We have a quote from Burma Senses for 2 people/2 bikes for: 10 days -$1950USD per person; 14 days - $2520USD per person. This costs includes guides and accommodation, and permit/entry fees etc. Presumable these costs would be lower with more people.

We are also looking for a group to cross China (KKH to Torugart pass) in around August, and have a quote for $1950 USD for 2 riders + 2 bikes for 5 days via Kashgar (I will make a separate thread for this).

Hi Mike/Ray,

I'm also planning a trip from Australia to London in starting early 2016. Route is kinda dependent on others to share guide costs in Myanmar/China before hitting the Stans.
I'm also in a Landcruiser Prado 4x4
I've done a good bit of research into China but only recently been looking into Myanmar. Rough date I plan to cross Malaysia to Thailand is last week of March

drkiwiklr 7 Oct 2015 05:27

We're planning to land Malaysia in last week of Feb, then spend a 2-3 months doing Thailand, Cambodia, Laos before crossing into Myanmar probably first week of June, or a little earlier.

Hi Mike thanks for the info

Looks like we might miss each other; I might be able to stretch to April for the crossing into Myanmar but by the sounds of things you'll be enjoying the sights and exploring a good be more than me.

Send me a PM if you want to keep in touch on the way, things might yet change plan wise for both of us so we might yet be of help to each other

Hi Franco,

We do not have any fixed dates yet, but are looking at entering Myanmar end of May, and entering China beginning of August.

China costs were $1950 USD for 2 people and 2 bikes for 5 days from KKH (Pakistan) to Torugart Pass (Kyrgyzstan), the per person costs presumably comes down with more people and bikes. This is a 5 day crossing, with 1 free day in Kashgar, otherwise it might be 4 days.

As far as I can tell you still need a guide to cross China. Some groups recently managed it without one, but then some more people ruined it by going off route etc, and now no tourist agency I talked to wants to take the risk. You need to arrange at least 3 months in advance with the tour company, and as far as I tell they take care of all the paperwork. 1 day of the crossing is taken up with arranging temporary drivers licenses and registration for the bikes.

Hi Mike,

Just wondered about your plan. I'm in Perth and planning to start from KL in Jul/Aug this year through Myanmar and China. Just wanted to see how did you go with these countries/cost.

Cheers,

Pejman

Hi Mike,

How's your plan to cross through Burma going?
Have you finalised your grouping with the Tour Agent?.
I am interested to go the same way around the same time in May 2016.
Any chance I could slot in? By the way I am driving.

Law.
