Mongolia to Laos July 2017

Hi,

I want to cross China with my bike around July 2017 from Mongolia to Laos. I have not detailed the route yet, but I want to visit Xinjiang and Tibet. Because of that, I consider to take the border at Takeshikenzhen to reduce the time and the cost in China. It is ok for me to drive long distance but i do not want to hurry. So I am planning to be in China for 30+ days.

If you want to do a similar trip, it would be nice to join and share the cost.

There is not a very big difference between the quotes i got so far, the most expensive part is the additional car for the guide, if needed (f.e. 0,65$ per km or 300€ per day).

If you are interested or want some more details, just let me know :)

Greetings from Germany

Manuel

Hi,

because of the situation in Thailand is getting more complicated, i think it would be nice to travel the complete route from Mongolia to Malaysia in a group.
So if you are planning a similar trip (or a part of that) around July and August next year, please fell free to contact me.

I have also started to look at alternatives, but shipping the bike from Mongolia to Malaysia seems expensive, too...

Kind regards

Manuel

Hi Marc,

to cross from Kirgisistan i would have to drive back from Mongolia through Russia and Kasachstan. I would prefer not to do that, but of course it is not impossible ;) Maybe we could meet in the middle? At what time do you plan to cross the border to China and what kind of route do you want to go?

I assume you are also a bike Driver?

Hi Manuel
Sorry for the late reply. Yes we could meet in Mongolia or Kazakstan. My concern is the weather in South China which could be very wet (and muddy) end of July. Any possibility for you in September when it is dry?
I have good quotes for crossing China.(I am a travel agent)
Yes I have a bike (XTZ660). But thinking of a sidecar now (same rules as for a bike in China = no motorways)
Cheers

Hey,

thanks for your reply, I'm also riding a XT660 Z ;)
I know July is not the common time for China, especially the south, but I want to be in Australia by October. So September will be too late for me, sorry.

I'm also interested to reach Laos through China.
Khyrgistan or Kazakhstan would be perfect to enter China.

datewise I'm not fixed yet, between may and june should be possible. so this would be a fit!

Hi Manuel

Also riding an XT660z and looking to get to Australia, could be intrested in joining up, fairly relaxed on route and time, have you got any further with trip across CHina. I agreed a grouop down to Malaysia would make sense due to rule changes in Laos/Thailand. Have you planned the route south into Aus ?

cheers

Andrew

Hello

hello, I am writing from Italy. My bike is in Kirgizistan now, until next summer. I am planning to cross from Mongolia to Laos on next september. But the prroblem seems new customs policy of Laos and Thailand... do you have fresh informations?

Hi Andrew,

for me, I have come to the conclusion, that driving through China with a guided group is not the way I want to travel, not only because it is expensive.

Instead, I will continue east to Wladiwostok, ship my bike to Indonesia and travel China, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia by Train and bus.

Are You planning to ship your bike from Dili to Darwin, too? I should be in Dili beginning of Octobre.

Regards

Manuel

Hi Remo,

i think the Problem is, even if you have up-to-date Information, it is not possible to say how the regulations will be in a few months.

Manuel
